Just watching NFL Total Access and they had Primetime on discussing the situation with Rich. As most of you know Crabtree and Prime worked closely together through out the NFL Draft and retain a close relationship afterwards. In basic terms Rich asked if Crabtree was really willing to sit out a entire year, host his own pro days and re-enter the 2010 draft.
Primetime said with out a doubt "yes". Pointing out that he won't miss the money he never had and that its really up to the 49ers to give him a real contract. Not a "if moby dick is a minnow" incentive based contract (Prime pointed out that one incentive was a extra 8 million if Crabtree catches as many passes as Jerry Rice). And that theres other teams that were willing to trade for the guy and give him a mid 30 million dollar contract.
Where do you place the blame in the situation? its...unthinkable to me that any rookie would even debate re enterting the draft in this day in age. Lets be honest, as much as I think Crabtree is a sure bet. Hes no Bo Jackson, he went #10 in what is widely regarded as a weak draft, wheres he expect to go next year?

I am a Niner fan and I was thrilled when they drafted Crabtree. But the number ten asking for top three pick money "because he deserves it" is a whole load of bullshit to me. The NFL rookie contract situation is a joke, but that is so far beyond retarded its unbelievable.
I have yet to hear that the Niners have received any solid offer of real value. Sure, some time might offer a 5th round pick, but that's hardly value in return for SF.
A clause like the Jerry Rice one for $8m is kinda ridiculous, but hard-to-reach clauses are fairly normal in NFL contracts at this point. So if you produce at a very high level, you get paid at a very high level. If you produce at a normal lower level, you are paid commensurate. That makes logical sense, but players want as much guranteed as possible.

The whole think has me annoyed. Another unproven rookie who is a "sure thing" coming out and wanting a shitload of money. I think the NFL needs to adopt the policy that the NBA has for rookies. It would definitely put a stop to these ridiculous contracts. I hope Craptree does wait until next years draft and don't go until the second or third round. Then I would really lol.

I wish they would, even slotted contracts these days are so disjointed, its not even really fair to call them sloted when Mark Sanchez is getting more than people a head of him, or BJ Raji is getting more then people a head of him. DeMaurice Smith doesnt seem like hes very keen on the idea, even Goodell said it was low on the totem poll for the new CBA when they discussed it at the draft.
Im not sure where Crabtrees redrafted value would be seen in the NFL. However I do know that if Im picking a WR out of Arrelious Benn, Damian Williams, Dez Bryant, Brandon LaFell, Golden Tate and Michael Crabtree. All homerism towards Golden Tate a side, Id take Crabtree.

Agreed, but really the owners need to take a bit of a stand against players like this. Crabtree has the tools to be a great WR but so have a lot of receivers that didn't amount to jack shit. Just look at quite a few of the can't miss WR's the Lions drafted.
I think Crabtree will reassess the situation with his agent in due time, does he really want to be remembered for this initially? and if he busts out, he'll become the next Ryan Leaf story.

wait are you saying Magic Johnson is black, has AIDS and has it better than ME?
I would actually prefer to see the Niners hardball and let him sit. Re-enter the draft if he wants in a year. As if the holdout wouldn't be a black mark against him.

All rookies in the NFL are overpaid (so are players in general, but it's especially out of hand for rookies). The guy makes himself look and sound like a dick in this situation. If I was heading the 49ers, I would tell the guy where he can shove the money he wants. Let the guy sit out a year. He won't be making any money and he would hurt his public image so much that i'm sure some teams would not even want to draft him and others would offer him even less money.

With NFL teams taking player attitude extremely seriously, you would think he wouldn't act like he just won the Superbowl. He needs to ditch whoever is giving him this advice because the money he is being offered now will not be on the table after next year's draft.

Depends on if you believe Deion or not, hes said Crabtree isn't hard up for money at all and is willing to sit out and accept a possibly lesser contract. Which, just sounds like spite that other teams would have paid him high 20s, low 30 millions.
And we also don't know if that money will be there or not, unless a CBA gets agreed upon before the draft that includes a rookie hard cap. Every one saying his draft stock gets destroyed is saying so because they think hes a idiot, not because he lacks any kind of talent. For all we know Crabtree will be running his 40 (something that hurt his draft stock this year, a lack of a 40 time) and doing all that. Next year is a top heavy draft if barring any suprise returns, Crabtree could be back in the top 10-top 5 discussion if he runs a sub 4.5.
