Gasol shit his pants when he saw that Boston had signed Rasheed Wallace. True story. he couldn't do anything against the Perkins/KG combo in the 2008 finals and now he'll have a motivated Wallace off the bench. I say 'motivated' because it's impossible for someone who joins the C's to NOT be motivated.
Magic got worse. I like Carter but Hedo was a better fit for that offense.
Artest is a better player than Ariza but not by as much as some would like to believe. Defensively, Artest is starting to slow down and he still takes horrible shots. They would have been better off keeping the younger Ariza.
Odom is said to be a ways away from signing back in LA. If he were to leave, Lakers are FUCKED..
Pretty much, as it stands right now Stack being bought out would be one of the things that need to happen for cap space (or the MLE?) to sign back ups like Kleiza, Delfino and parker.
In any case, the Mavs also have to take Marcus Banks off there hands if they want Marion apparently.
God I hope they dont resign Parker. He scored maybe six points a night and always had blow bys on D. Though Jack and Leo would go on about his great D. D for Delfino!
I think out of all the big moves, the Lakers improved the most in the west, and the C's improved most in the east. Lakers lost Ariza, which can turn out to be a bust and nothing else. Celtics picked up a talented player in Sheed, and they look like the favorite in the east.
Best Pick Up: Turk on Toronto. He's been consistent since he's gotten to the NBA but has always been overshadowed. Now that he got to start and shine, Toronto greatly improved with him.
Worst Pick Up: Vince Carter. Magic traded three good players for an injury prone player, who isn't even in his prime, at the cost of losing three good players, and not by resigning Turk which is going to hurt them bad this season. They need to re-sign that back up center as well.
I gotta agree with PY on the Magic trade. Not so much Alston, or the other guy who went with him ( whoever the hell that was), but given time, I think Lee could have given the team exactly what Carter hopefully will give them. However, it seems like the Magic are looking short term, much like the Celtics, instead of long term.
I'm not so sure on the Hedo move. He's a good player and all, I just think a little overpaid. I remember a few key Magic games where Hedo and Lewis didnt show. The Raps cant have Hedo going into a slump or they are screwed.
source indicated Tuesday that the Raptors may be trying to create room to take Stackhouse's $2 million guaranteed salary by finding a home for forward Ryan Humphries, who has two years and $6.1 million left on his contract. Humphries will make $2.9 million this coming season, and the Raptors would, in this scenario, trade him for cash (thought to be $3 million, the maximum allowed). They would also get $3 million from Dallas for taking Stackhouse, which would actually make the deal a profitable one for Toronto when they buy out or waive Stackhouse at the $2 million.
The Celtics have to pay over $8 million in luxury taxes to the NBA by July 22, according to a league memo obtained by ESPN.com. They are one of seven teams who have been hit with a luxury tax. The NBA also announced the salary cap for the 2009-10 season will be set at $57.7 million, down from $58.68 million last season. Visit Green Street for more details.

Tuesday's memo also listed the seven teams that must make luxury-tax payments to the league office by July 22 based on last season's payrolls. The dollar-for-dollar tax, assessed to any team with a payroll above the $71.15 million threshold that was in place in 2008-09, will result in the following invoices to be delivered to the respective teams before Friday's deadline: New York ($23,736,207), Dallas ($23,611,661), Cleveland ($13,707,010), Boston ($8,294,664), Los Angeles Lakers ($7,185,631), Portland ($5,899,356) and Phoenix ($4,918,136).

Chris "Birdman" Andersen has reached a five-year deal to continue his high-flying, shot-blocking act with the Denver Nuggets.
Andersen's attorney, Mark Bryant, confirmed the agreement on Wednesday, saying it could be signed later in the day. The deal was first reported by The Denver Post.
Andersen, who provided shot-blocking, rebounding and energy off the bench for the Nuggets in their run to the Western Conference finals, could make as much as $26 million from the deal.
Andersen will earn $3.65 million next season from the contract, which is back-loaded to give the Nuggets financial flexibility and sweetened with performance incentives. Andersen earned $998,398 last season.
While Andersen was sought by a number of NBA teams as an unrestricted free agent, he wanted to stay in Denver, Bryant said, according to the Post.
"We're ecstatic to stay in the community," Bryant said, the newspaper reported.
Andersen averaged 6.4 points, a career-high 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots in 2008-09, his first full season back in the league after returning from a two-year drug suspension in March 2008.
