Why not start moving all the struggling franchises to Canada? Expansion in the south and parts of the west were horrible ideas.
Because there are few Canadian markets left that can support an NHL team. A team struggling for survival in Winnipeg or Quebec City really isn't any better than a team struggling in Phoenix or Tampa Bay.
But obviously Toronto can support another team. I don't get it. Do people realize that in the NBA, the LA Clippers make money? You'd think the people in LA would be all about the Lakers (and they are) but the Clippers do just fine because there's so many people in that area who want to attend games and the Clipper games are much cheaper. It doesn't matter if its a Maple Leafs town. It'll always be a Maple Leafs town just as LA will always be a Lakers town, but if the other Toronto franchise came in and did well, people would still attend the games because above all, they love hockey.

Toronto can. It has the population, money, and rabid hockey fans to make it work. But Toronto is alone in that regard.
There isn't another city that already has an NHL team that could handle a second team, and Hamilton is probably the only city without a team that could adequately support one. I seriously doubt Winnipeg could support an NHL team. Nor Halifax nor Quebec City nor London.
Also, places like Phoenix would probably have more fan support if they just threw out a competitive team every now and then. And their fiscal situation comes from that awful lease, so it's not really the location that's the problem in Phoenix imo.

I don't think a generic Toronto team #2 would get any support for about 30 years, it needs a lot of history to even compete with the fans the Leafs have. People don't understand that the Toronto Maple Leads are Yankee/BoSox combined in Canada.
as for there jerseys
fugleh
I think otherwise. Considering Leaf's games almost always sell out/are expensive as hell, if the Toronto Legacy some how come through with their supposed promise of offering affordable 50 dollar tickets a lot of lower income families/people who can't procure Leaf's tickets will start going. If you can only afford to go to the Toronto Legacy's games, eventually you will become a fan because they will be "your" team.

It's also worth noting that a.) Many people living in and around Toronto are not actually from there, and b.) Many native Torontonians have grown tired and annoyed with the Maple Leafs.

I honestly could care less about the Maple Leafs and I'm annoyed with them =\
I just have a hard time, that a team with as much support in one area like the Leafs would support another team. Its not a question of could they (Toronto obviously could) its WOULD they.
People would definitely support the new team. I guarantee you, it would sell out every night. The people are also sick of the Leafs. They support the Leafs cause its the only NHL Team in Town. Alot of them would switch giving a chance....I and most of my buddies would.
