Bored lately since it's NFL offseason lately and wanted a good discussion.
With the MLB currently embroiled in a long PED scandal, do you think the NFL will ever get in a PED scandal? I love the NFL, but it's blatantly obvious that the majority are on some kind of substance (inb4 some retard comes in claiming that I'm jealous of their physical superiorty). imo The league probably has some big loopholes in the testing due to the massive PR destruction if a top player tests positive. Passing tests these days isn't a good indicator of whether one is using or not due to masking agents, timing cycle.
Another question too, do you believe that using PEDs can be considered cheating these days in sport when pretty much everyone is using?
I honestly don't think that the NFL will have the type of scandal that MLB has had. If you look at the last 10 years in the NFL then you will notice almost once a year to twice a year someone gets suspended for using a controlled substance. In large part it is because they have had more stringent testing long before baseball ever did. Baseball has been rocked because of the fact that before 10 years ago nothing was ever tested. The biggest names you had heard getting suspended before that for any kinds of drugs were Steve Howe, Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry and those were for cocaine. I think one of the reasons that baseball has been hit so hard is because it was Americas pastime and not considered a dopers paradise. They are a lot more strict than the NFL on what substances you can use. Football has always had steroid users, much like baseball had in some degree, just more people got away with it, and as is the case with baseball people are still going to use, but they may get lucky for awhile and not get caught. It's all a matter of time. If you remember there were four NFL players last year that got busted, although they have since appealed the decision and I honestly haven't heard anything about it since. I also think with the beating that NFL players take most people are pretty much not concerned about the steroid issue. They have many more obstacles to overcome before that gets brought to the mainstream attention. But by and large they have always had a more strict testing regiment.
Football has had a tougher testing policy in place for years. THEIR union wholeheartedly agreed to it instantly. Not like baseball's union, which fucking fights everything tooth and nail. Baseball suspends players "longer" in terms of actual games, but when your season is like 400 games long, what is 50 games?
Despite what all the baseball boot lickers tell the media, the testing in the NFL and the Olympics, hell, even the WWE and MMA, is waaaaaaaay tougher than baseball. Christ, everyone associated with MLB was crowing to the world the steroid era was over, then bam! Manny is busted.
Oh, and baseball is all about records and numbers. Moreso than any other sports. That plays a huge part in things too.
Yes, some big name players have been caught, but I believe there is a huge number that know to use undetectable steroids/masking agents (with their money, it's very possible) and time their cycles. I doubt only around 10 use every year in a sport like the NFL LOL.
There was no dent in the slightest when Vick got busted for dog fighting and he was one of the most popular players in the NFL I doubt even if there is steroids in the NFL it would hurt it that much.
To be stronger, faster, to recover from injury, to have more stamina, to jump higher, for the same reasons other athelets use them, a competitive advantage. The NFL has a long checkered past with steriods from the raiders of the 70's, to Bill Romanowski, to Roidney Harrison, but for some reason the public doesn't seem to care.
