Hmmm...I'm going to be critical because I'm edge and all but a lot of kids just grab it because of Punk recently mentioning it and making it his biggest catch phrase. What kind of music you listen to? Do you know where edge even started? Will you be drug free until you're six feet under? Welcome aboard, you and I could be good pals.

Nicky, I am fully commited to it man, I have been Straight Edge for my whole life and plan to be by the time I am 6 feet under. The reason I like by SxE is purely because I had heart surgury when I was 8, I realize how lucky I actually am to be alive (1 in 1000 people survive from what I have and I am featured in 3 medical papers on it) And I also see some of my favourite singers die from drugs and alcohol (Layne Staley) So yeah, thats my reasons for living by the X.

90% of people who have that as a screen name and have a user title of "Straight Edge and proud" are most probably straight edge. And it happens to be something I stand for and believe in, finding a million kids being like "Been straight edge for a week". People don't understand edge is forever. It is a lifelong commitment, if you're not now you never were.

Just because I don't get a lot of chances to talk about this with people. What are you on the third X stance, no promiscuous sex? Personally I think it is a must with the straight edge scene but I know a lot kids who just like sleeping around with anyone they can. Always had an inside joke with a friend use to call the kid 2/3 edge.

I believe in it, I can see why people WOULD do it, but unlike drugs and alcohol abuse, it wouldn't be something I personally preach over. I think that lust is a human instinct, and abuse is not. You can see how lust can overtake someone for the right reasons, but I cannot understand how abuse and addiction can overtake someone for the right reasons, if you see where I am coming from?

Yes I do, but casual sex is the leading cause of spreading many STDs. Hence Ian MacKaye's philosophy. Especially in the punk rock scene which is what they wanted to separate themselves from. They had a message and they knew they wouldn't be taken serious if they were druggies or humping everything with a pulse. They also knew that STDs were spread viciously around that time period of rebellion. This is why I've always seen it as a crucial part and there being three X's was always a symbol for that. People just ignoring it means they didn't want the full burden of what straight edge is.
