I am much prefer the ground game to the stand up and I absolutely love BJJ.
So, who do you think are the best BJJ fighters in MMA today?
5. Nate Diaz: I dont like this guy, but can't deny how good he is on the floor. He gets beat and beat and beat and then all of a sudden catches you with a submissions. His legs are long and always moving. A fight with BJJ should be interesting.
4. Antonio Nogueira: Usually big men are not known for their BJJ, but Nogueira is not only known, he was for the longest time regarded as the best. Most of wins comes by submissions and one different than the other. He is also the man who gave A.Silva his black belt.
3. Rousimar Palhares: Fought against Horn with a broken hand and still dominated him on the ground. His armbar against Salaverry earned Submission of the night and against Horn fought with a broken hand and still dominated him on the ground.
2. Damian Maia: Fought in the UFC four times and got Submission of the Night 3 times. That should say it all.
1. BJ Penn: He is just unbelievable on the ground. His feet are like arms and his name should be Elastic Man, cause his flexibility is just insane. They call him the Prodigy for a reason.
I was gonna give Vinicius Magalhães the 5th spot, but he still hasnt won a fight int he UFC. He is going to be someone to watch tho.

Do you have a reason not to give The Half Boy your vote for the Hall of Fame?
Its a tough arguement, because there is a difference between being a great Brazilian Jiu-Jitus practioner and using it effectively in MMA. Someone like Antonio Nogueira doesn't use the flashiest BJJ but its very effecitve in MMA because of how he combines it with his other skills. Same with BJ Penn.
I would have to put Shinya Aoki at or near the top. He is also a Judo black belt, which makes for an interesting combination. And he currently doesn't have the round skills of Penn or Nogueira in terms of striking, grappling, etc. Few MMA fighters can combine the basic submissions like heel hooks and armbars with the flashy stuff like a mounted gogoplata or flying triangle choke. The mounted gogoplata was just unreal.
demian maia, paulo filho, shina aoki roger gracie, dustin haelett, vinny magalhaes, gabriel gonzaga, jacare souza, nogueiras, not in any order
Good call. Jacarae and Filho were guys I meant to mention.
And Jay, Silva definitely has very good Jiu-Jitsu. The problem is that he uses it so rarely in fights. He seems to vastly prefer to keep a fight standing, and its obvious why. But he has only 4 submission wins to his credit, and two of those were submissions from strikes. Silva might be capable of winning a fight primarily just using his BJJ skills, but he really hasn't proven that. Other guys, like Penn, Aoki, etc, have.
I'd have to go with the following.
Demian Maia
Dustin Hazelett
Carlos Condit
Shinya Aoki
Big Nog and Lil Nog
Cody Stevens (you've never heard of him unless you watch NAAFS on Sportstime Ohio but his BJJ is SICK)
BJ Penn
