2008 has been an amazing year for MMA fans. Post who you think were the best of 2008...add your own awards.

These are mine:


A lot of great performances by a lot of great fighters this year, but for me Anderson Silva was outstanding in 2008. He accumulated 3 victories and looked unstoppable in all of them. Beat Hendo and unified the middleweight belts. Moved up to Lightheavyweight and destroyed James Irvin in the first round and he also beat Cote.

Kenny Florian also had a great year going 3-0. He beat Huerta, Joe Lauzon and Joe Stevenson. Was oustanding in all of those wins. He is the Ultimate Finisher.

Rashad Evans was another fighter who had a great year. Knocked out Chuck Lidell with a devastating right. He also capped the year by beating and winning the Lightheavyweight Title from Forrest Griffin.


I know he actually had a fight in 2007, but his real year started in 2008. Lost to Mir, but was impressive in that fight, then beat Hearring by total domination and finished off the year by beating Living Legend Randy Couture and winning the World Heavyweight Title. Great Year by the former Pro Wrestler...


That visual was awesome. It looked like a Hollywood movie scene. Not only is Rashad fast, but he also has really heavy gloves. Knocking out Chuck Lidell is not an easy task.


I love this guy. He makes watching UFC so much fun. He took one PPV off and it wasnt the same, even tho Kenny Florian was decent. I like the way he doesnt let Goldberg get away with anything. I wish the UFC would sign Mauro Ranallo as the play by play. Ranallo and Rogan are by far the best MMA commentators today.

This was Palhares's first fight in the UFC and he was impressive. Best armbar I've ever seen. His BJJ is just a thing of beauty.

I never rated Kimbo very high, but even I thought he could beat Seth Petruzelli. And the way he lost is even more shocking...he got Knocked Out in the first minute.

No one thought Forrest had a chance in hell of beating Jackson, but he proved a lot of people wrong and won the Title. This fight lasted 5 rounds and this 2 guys beat the hell out of each other. The fight was great when it went ot the ground and it was great when they stayed on their feet.

I would only argue that Rashad Evans has pretty much as good a claim to Fighter of the Year as Anderson Silva. Not that you can really aruge with Silva's year. I know that Evans only had two fights in 2008, but they were 2 big wins. Two of the best at LHW and they were decisive wins. I'm a bigger fan of Silva than Evans, but I think he has to get some consideration, at the very least.
