Major news coming out of MMA today. SportsIllustrated.com reports that EliteXC notified their fighters today that they would be shutting down eminently. The company had been bleeding in excess of $60 million and the hope was that CBS would buy the company.
The last EliteXC show on CBS headlined with Kimbo Slice vs. Seth Petruzelli. Petruzelli was the replacement in the fight after Ken Shamrock was deemed unable to fight due to a cut over his eye.
Petruzelli made public statements intimating that he may have been paid a bonus to stand with Kimbo, although he later went back and said that what he said was misinterpreted. The Florida Athletic State Commission is currently investigating the matter and this could have been the final nail in the coffin for negotiations between ProElite and CBS.
Damn that sucks but with Kimbo Losing and the scandal around the whole thing this was bound to happen.

Affliction will pick him up and feed him to Fedor.
Just to prove that ProElite were a buncha punks for banking their entire company on an internet street fighter.
Maybe though, just maybe this will be a good thing for Kimbo, think about it, if you're Kimbo, go away for a couple years, prove yourself on the indy scene after you get some REAL training (i.e. anything that gets you away from Bas Rutten and teaches you some ACTUAL striking and ground technique) and then come back and ask Dana for a one fight contract, tell him you'll fight the least well known guy on his heavyweight roster...and then promptly destroy him with vicious ground and pound technique.
As far as everybody else in the company...
Nick Diaz, Robbie Lawler, Scott Smith, Phil Baroni...all UFC castoffs, Dana probably won't have them back, unless he can sign Diaz and Noons both and force them to fight each other.
Guarantee that Dana is talking to quite a few of those guys that not a lot of people knew about.
And btw, if Dana is smart, he's offering Gina Carano, Cyborg, and the entire women's division of EliteXC the world to get them to come over.
No, not yet. I hope Dana realizes that he can appeal to even more of his target demographic if he does get them and signs Carano .v. Cyborg ASAP. Hell even if he takes the women's division and puts it in WEC that would rock so hard.
