despite the fact that Ken Shamrock was chosen over Brett Rogers to face Kimbo Slice on the next EliteXC on CBS card on October 4th, Rogers' camp has been told by EliteXC officials that he will face the winner of that fight sometime in the future.
In addition, EliteXC officials have invited Rogers to sit ringside for the October 4th card to get a better a look at his next opponent (like he really needs it).
They will find some excuse for Kimbo, they don't want to see Rogers tear him apart.

You know what's funny about all this? If ProElite thought that Kimbo was such hot shit, we wouldn't even be having this discussion, we'd be talking about Kimbo .v. Antonio Silva, but since they know that their cash cow (Kimbo) against any credible fighter (and yes, I consider James Thompson a somewhat credible fighter, even though he sucks) would get ripped apart and nobody would bother paying to see him anymore afterward, they're not going to take the chance, I agree.
Course I think it'd be funny as hell if old ass Ken Shamrock were to take Kimbo down and lock him in an ankle pick or another submission and get the tap out before the fight with Rogers even happens. I might even DVR the event just to see if it happens that way.
I actually found out recently it's not even entirely Elite XC doing this, Bas Rutten, the man who is trainign Kimbo and acting manager said on Inside MMA, why bother giving Kimbo a tough test because he won't win, you have to feed him lower level guys, build up him and then face a tough guy way into the future. It makes no sense to wreck his hype at this point.
That's not exactly what he said but it's pretty close to what Bas was talking about.
