Despite the loss of its Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua main event -- and then the loss of a new main event between Liddell and Rashad Evans -- UFC 85 isn't lacking in overall quantity of fights.
Over the weekend the UFC confirmed a previously rumored bout between Paul Taylor (8-3-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Jess Liaudin (12-9 MMA, 2-1 UFC), bringing the total number of rumored bouts for the June 7 event to 13 (with 12 now official).
UFC 85, which now features a main event of Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves, takes place at the O2 Arena in London, England, and airs live on pay per view beginning at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT.
Liaudin previously announced his bout with Taylor last month. The two fighters first met at Cage Rage 2 in February 2003, where Liaudin lost -- what he calls -- a "controversial decision."
Rua, the original headliner of the event, was forced out of the show with a knee injury. Liddell followed a few months later with a leg injury.
Now, in addition to a new main event of Hughes vs. Alves, the UFC 85 televised main card includes Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben (assuming Leben is sprung from jail during a Thursday hearing), Marcus Davis vs. Mike Swick, Rashad Evans vs. James Irvin, and Brandon Vera vs. Fabricio Werdum. However, due to some late bookings, a middleweight bout between middleweight contenders Thales Leites and Nate Marquardt has been bumped to the un-televised preliminary card.
This is a new test for Joker, who is one of my favourite fighters, I still love his comment about Dana's desk being huge because his CV was on there for just under 10 years. Hopefully he can pull out another win.
