Josh Burkman has confirmed with MMAWeekly.com that he'll be fighting Dustin Hazelett at the Ultimate Fighter seven finale on June 21st. Burkman will bring a 9-5 record (5-3 in the UFC) with him into the fight as he looks to get back on track after a very disappointing decision loss to Mike Swick in January at Ultimate Fight Night 12.
“No more decisions,” he said adamantly. “I’m going to do everything I possibly can to make sure this fight doesn’t go to a decision. I’ll even retire if it does go to a decision. I can’t have them anymore.”
To better his chances of ending the fight decisively in his favor, he'll be moving from his self ran camp based out of Utah to the highly regarded Xtreme Couture camp in Las Vegas.
“I’m going to head down to Las Vegas and I’m going to train at Xtreme Couture,” he commented. “That’s the one thing that’s really going to benefit me is training with those guys that are where I’m at, they’re in the UFC. So I’m going to head down there see if I can pick some stuff up.”
He'll face a tough competitor in Dustin Hazelett (10-4 overall (3-2 UFC)) however. A Brown Belt under Jorge Gurgel, Hazelett will surely look to make a strong comeback after his second round TKO loss to top ranked Josh Koshcheck. Although he lost, Hazelett pushed the fight and showed an impressive stand up game before the stoppage. However, that seems to be just where Burkman wants to keep the fight.
“After this fight nobody will talk about my wrestling background anymore, because I’m not even going to try to clinch. I’m not even going to try to go to the ground. I’m going to try and knock this dude out,” said Burkman. “So much for not giving away a gameplan… there’s my gameplan.”
Not a huge fight, both are holding on to their place in the UFC with only one more win than losses, could be interesting though.
