Tim Sylvia has declared that he will make a "huge" announcement regarding the future of his career this Friday. The following is provided courtesy of his official website:
On Friday, around 12:00, I've got a couple of big announcements to make about my career. So all of my loyal fans will want to stay tuned to my website because this is huge. -Tim
I hope this is the announcement of his retirement. -crosses fingers-
According to a source close to the situation, Tim Sylvia may be set to announce his decision to leave the UFC this Friday. The Fight Network is reporting that the former UFC heavyweight champion who has one fight remaining on his current UFC contract may be looking to face Fedor Emelianenko in a what would be a highly lucrative and anticipated match up.
Sylvia (24-4) sports notable wins over Andrei Arlovski (2), Ricco Rodriguez, Jeff Monson, Mike Whitehead (2) and Ben Rothwell. He recently lost to Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera after a solid performance via submission in the third round.
We'll have more on this story tomorrow after Sylvia makes his announcement.

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Adrenaline MMA announced today that heavyweight stars Tim
Sylvia and Ben Rothwell have signed multi-fight contracts with the
newly-formed promotion.
Sylvia (24-4) is a former 2-time UFC heavyweight champion, while Rothwell
(31-5) was undefeated in the IFL for the champion Quad Cities Silverbacks.
Sylvia, 6-foot-8 and 265 pounds, has fought 13 times in the UFC and
defeated top performers like Jeff Monson, Andre Arlovski (twice), Brandon
Vera, Ricco Rodriguez and Assuerio Silva.
"Adrenaline is a new promotion, but it allows fighters to fight for other
organizations... that's huge," Sylvia said. "I've got 3 to 4 years left
and want to fight as much as possible, so this is the perfect choice for
me at this time."
Rothwell, 6-5 and 265, has won 13 straight bouts, including all 9 of his
IFL fights.
"Adrenaline will give me the chance to take things to the next level,"
Rothwell said. "I'm ready to see how I fare against the best heavyweights
in the world."
Sylvia and Rothwell both train at Miletich Fighting Systems in Bettendorf,
Iowa.
Tim Sylvia made the following comments on HDNet's "Inside MMA":
Quote:
Japan's starting to get some big shows going again, and Affliction show is going to be happening. So I'm looking to fight in all of them. Be real active, fight five or six times a year. And there's a guy out there named Fedor [Emelianenko], who I'd like to fight. And I think the only way that's going to happen is by me leaving the UFC.

Just as there's a chance Fedor might come to the UFC, Sylvia leaves...no surprise really his manager is the one who owns Adrenaline or something along those lines.

With multiple promotions in the United States including EliteXC, Strikeforce, the as yet unannounced Affliction/Golden Boy Promotion team and several more in Japan, Sylvia said he intends on fighting “six or seven” times next year.
His contract with Adrenaline is non-exclusive, so the bigger question may just be which promotions he might materialize in.
“All of the above,” Sylvia said with a laugh. “Whoever is willing to fight me. I’ll fight anybody, anytime, anywhere, any place. So if they come up with the money everyone else is matching, I’m going to go there and fight.”
One fight in particular that seems to peek Sylvia’s interest is a match-up with former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, who is currently a free agent searching for a new home.
“I have the utmost respect for that guy,” Sylvia commented about Fedor. “He’s ranked No. 1 in the world. I want to challenge myself, and I want to fight him. No doubt in my mind. It’s the best fight out there for the both of us right now. You know he hasn’t fought any No. 1 contenders in a while and I think he needs to be tested and I want to be tested. I think it’s a great fight for me, it’s a great fight for him, and I think we need to make that fight happen.”
The list of top heavyweights available for Sylvia to fight keeps growing and the former heavyweight champ said he hopes to fight soon. He is currently eyeing a fight in May, June or July.
Well people are seeing this a complete joke but you have to stop and wonder, what if? If this happened I beleive that this would be the first real fight that Fedor has had with someone a lot taller than him, I mean sure you could count Lindland but come on, he was fighting a fighter two weight classes above him, it was no challenge for Fedor. Being tall and in the right weight class, Sylvia could give Fedor problems.
