Now there are reports flying out there that A.Silva and RJJ are in the beginning stages of getting a fight together. It would most likely be a regular boxing match.
So what are you thoughts on this?
Does Silva have any chance or will RJJ just completely destroy him?
Discuss?

I saw the story on this and apparently Jones Jr. was actually flattered that Silva wanted to box with him. I hear that Silva has some good boxing background, but c'mon, it's fuckin Roy Jones. I think Silva could possibly hold his own but I can't really see him winning. It would be interesting to see the Vegas odds if this happened.
But if The Spider were to win it, man, that would be HUGE for MMA. But I highly doubt it. Regardless, if the shoe were on the other foot and Jones Jr. fought Silva in an MMA match he would have his ass handed to him on a silver platter.
Honestly if this was Roy Jones of the 90's then hands down he rapes Silva, but this is 2008 Roy Jones isn't what he used to be, Silva is in his prime and has shown great mma striking, I think if he were to train exclusively with boxing he'd do well, and he would obviously have a very very unorthodox style which could help.
It'd be interesting, if he lost no one would be surprised but if Silva won that would win over boxing fans to show mma fighters are not just thugs.
But the problem is I'm not sure if Silva would know how to box a 12 round fight. Because unlike mma boxers don't need to go for the finish you can afford to lose 2 rounds to tire your opponent and then strike back and easily win the next three rounds (and you're still not halfway done yet). With Silva doing mma where you have at most 5 rounds it would be interesting to see if he could try and slow himself down and try to solely win rounds, not finish.

LOL. I just talked about wanting to see the Vegas odds for this fight. Well, Bodog has put out their own. And I must say, they are certainly not in favor of my buddy Anderson.

UFC Middleweight champion Anderson "Spider" Silva has essentially cleaned out the middleweight division and is viewed by many as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in all of mixed martial arts.
Talk out of Silva's camp lately hasn't been about his next MMA fight, though Silva has stated a willingness to move up or down to find a worthy opponent, but has instead been focused on a possible boxing match with former world champion Roy Jones Jr. Jones camp hasn't dismissed the fight and are rumored to be open to participating in the match up under boxing rules.
No word yet on whether the UFC would allow such an event to take place but that hasn't stopped the rumors from escalating on both sides.
The rumors appear to have some legitimate merit as evidenced by the fact that Bodog has just released odds for the fight:
Roy Jones Jr. -2800
Anderson Silva+1400

Like I said before, this story seems to have some serious legs. Every time the hype about it dies down a little bit, a new nugget of information gets passed along, this time from NBC Sports:
Representatives of UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and boxing great Roy Jones Jr. are actively engaging in talks that would pit the two in a boxing match, NBCSports.com has learned.
Alan Hopper, director of public relations for Don King Productions confirmed that talks are ongoing, and characterized them as “preliminary.”
“Roy likes the idea and is up for it,” Hopper said. “It’s being discussed. Roy will only agree if the match takes place under the rules of boxing, and UFC would have to clear Silva’s participation.”
The one sticking point in this whole deal is obviously going to be whether or not Dana White would clear Anderson Silva to do a one-off boxing match with Roy Jones, Jr. My gut feeling is that he would never allow Silva to do such a thing. We’re talking about a guy who has been approached about putting on the biggest fight in mixed martial arts history, Randy Couture vs. Fedor, and has turned it down.
If he’s so unwilling to help out his own sport because it may be beneficial to another promotion, what in the world makes anyone think that he will help out the sport of boxing by allowing his middleweight champion to step into a boxing ring with one of the all-time greats? It just doesn’t make sense. The fact that Dana has yet to say anything concrete regarding this matter is baffling to me. Is he seriously considering it? Maybe. But when he does say something, I’m putting my money on him squashing it once and for all.
Usually if Dana is against something he comes out immidiatly and says this is fucken garbage, the fact that he hasn't puts some faith that he will let this fight happen, possibly because he thinks Silva is a great boxer, he was a former boxer himself so he obviously know what a good fighter looks like.
Please Dana let it happen it won't harm the sport if Roy Jones dominates at his game.
