Re: UFC® 93 FRANKLIN vs HENDERSON

Great card. UFC is starting the Year with a bang.

These are my quick predictions.

Franklin will take this by decision.

Rua will stop Coleman early in the second.

Belcher should get past Kang. Ground and pound in the second.

Palhares by submission in the second.

Davis by decison against Lytle in what should be a war.

I also think Kampmann and Shafer will come out victorious.

Re: UFC® 93 FRANKLIN vs HENDERSON

At this point, nothing surprises me. Coleman could like the "2000 Grand Prix" version of himself and I wouldn't be shocked. Horn could pummell Palhares and I probably wouldn't blink.

I'm a bit torn between Hendo and Franklin. I like both fighters. Its just a fight I see Hendo taking. I don't think it goes to ground, and if it does, Henderson has an advantage there. Standing up, Franklin is a better technical striker but Henderson is more dangerous. I think that's the difference. Could go either way.

I dont know, Coleman is pretty old and hasn't fought since he was demolished by Fedor. Thats a long time to take, especially in MMA. Shogun is still in his prime and hungry for revenge. He needs to avenge his loss to Coleman and he also needs to redeem himself from his KO to Forrest. I dont see Coleman having any chance here to be honest with you.

Same thing with Jeremy Horn. He is not 40 years old, but just like Wanderley, he's been around this game for years and his body has been beat up a lot. Palhares on the other hand is younger and his BJJ is just off the hook. His stamina might be a problem, but I see see Palhares ending this quickly, so that shouldn't be a problem.

ps: Sorry Big Papa...I wanted to quote you, but I edited your post by accident. If you could repost your prediction, it would be be great.

Re: UFC® 93 FRANKLIN vs HENDERSON

Just got finished watching this, so I hope those of you who haven't watched this yet aren't hanging around in this thread for predictions cos I'm about to talk about the fights and results so this post will contain nuts... I mean SPOILERS!!

The Lytle/Davies fight was a slug fest, but it could've been way better and I think Davies was lucky in getting that decision to be honest and I'd really like to see these guys paired up again with a decisive finish. Same with Coleman and Rua, which to be honest was underwhelming after they both gassed in the first round! Plus that finish was no way a TKO, Coleman had a single leg and was going for a takedown as the referee stepped in. It was a bullshit decision to a terrible fight.

Horn vs. Palhares was fantastic and Palhares was phenomenal especially after he revealled he injured his hand in the first round. I want to see more of this guy. I was a little disappointed for Horn cos I really like the guy and he seems like a real workhorse, but he was simply dominated.

As for Franklin/Hendo, it went the way I wanted it to go. I have to say I have never, ever rated Franklin at but I was impressed with his performance (even though he lost), he showed heart and skill, whereas he normally seems to just be purely lucky to me. Plus Henderson vs. Bisping is a more interesting fight in my eyes, cos I don't rate Bisping either.

Re: UFC 93 FRANKLIN vs HENDERSON - Spoilers inside

So insanely disappointed with Shogun's performance. If it was simply ring rust and he returns to form in his next fight, then fine. But he said he was 100%. Needs to start training with Wand's conditioning guy.

Excited to see Hendo coach the next season, Rich didn't want to anyway. And I think Hendo will murder The Count (which is too bad).

Horn showed all kinds of heart and Palhares showed a ton of skill and class.

Lytle and Davies fight would have been a ton more exciting if they had let it hit the ground. Both are just as exciting with their sub attempts as they are standing.

I loved the atmosphere so much at this fight. This was home-support at best. I had goose-bumps from it. The entrance was so cool, the fans “jumped around” on the house of pain song. I so hoped Davis would win this one just for the fans only. So cool they start to sing “the fields of athenry”. somewhere in the first round. Lytle had a good start and directly connected a good punch. Lytle was like the one more attacking, but Davis his defense was very good and countered very good with some great kicks and knees. Close but deserving win for Davis…<O

Bit boring first round, Kang with bit boxing and then goes for the takedown. Where Denis Kang was the better man with the groundfighting. Belcher can control what Kang wants to do on the ground and then catches him with a guillotine submission-hold in the second round. And that was directly the Submission of the night. <O

Palhares dominated Horn in the beginning, Horn in trouble almost the whole first round. Then suddenly Arm-triangle almost out of nowhere and Horn back in the fight again. Palhares looked tired and could not finish Horn do his experience. But defeats him by unanimous decision. Seems he hurt his hand in first round…<O

This match disappointed me a bit, Coleman looked awesome for his age. Very sharp. But it just looked this way. He already was exhausted at the end of the first round. Shogun was clearly not in his best shape. Could finish him a few times but then almost get in to trouble himself when Coleman was on top of him. But then suddenly in the third it was all over for Coleman when he got some good punches from Shogun. Deserving win by Shogun, but he did not look good in this fight. He still got very much work to get back on top of the rankings. And I feel bad for Mark Coleman, almost could not get back up in the match and he looked so old after the match. <O

"just a good match". Maybe I expected to much from it. they were both good and my opinion the same level. Franklin caught a naughty cut from a accidental head-but and maybe that limited him a bit, i'm sure he could have bring more. Then at the end a poke in the eye,Again accidental but nothing happend anymore after the restart. difficult decision to choose a winner. Could have been Franklin to, but there can only be one winner. <O

Re: UFC 93 FRANKLIN vs HENDERSON - Spoilers inside

No worries, Fedor. Think I got the predictions right except for the Kang fight and he was doing pretty well in that one before the nice sub. x

The Shogun-Coleman fight was tough to watch. I honestly didn't feel that the stoppage was poor, but I can also see why Coleman was upset. Shogun looked ass. He did enough did win, obviously, but he did not look like the dominant fighter he once was. He was exhausted, and he gassed so bad against Griffin. I'd like to see him in the UFC again, but I don't know that Shogun is ever going to be the Shogun that was so great in Pride.

Henderson-Franklin went about how I expected. Franklin is the better striker, but the aggression and power of Henderson standing up kept Franklin from ever really finding his range and getting comfortable. On the ground, Henderson had an obvious advantage. It illustrated why I still think Franklin isn't that suited to 205 - I think he'll just be a slightly above-average 205er in a deep weight class.

Re: UFC 93 FRANKLIN vs HENDERSON - Spoilers inside

I just finished watching this and it was a decent show.

Davis beat Lytle:
This was a slugfest. They both love to strike and they did just that. It was an entertaining fight I guess, but it could have been so much better. Lytle has really heavy gloves and Davis did well to hit and move. Davis' kicks to Lytle's midsection were brutal. I'm pretty sure they are going to do it again.

Belcher beat Kang:
I used to watch a lot of Pride back in the days, but I really dont remember Kang. Reted as one of the best middleweights in MMA and I can see why. Was doing great before Belcher caught him with that awesome choke. After the first round, I thought Belcher would have no chance, so that really caught me by surprise. Both these men's future look bright.

Palhares beat Horn:
Top 5 BJJ fighter in MMA today imo. Ive loved this guy since he submitted Salaverry with that crazy armbar. I was surprised he couldnt finish Horn, but I guess its tough to fight with a broken hand lol. Horn made a fan out of me. The guy looked so relax in that octagon and I loved how he kept talking to Rogan during the fight. Showed a lot of heart and almost came out with the win when he had Palhares trapped in that arm traingle. For a moment I tought we were going to see another Belcher/Kang, but Palhares relaxed and successfully got free and on his feet. This to me was the fight of the night.

Hathaway beat Egan:
Great crowd reaction for the 20 yrs old kid from Dublin. The crowd was absolutely wild in this fight. They were actually pumped for every fight, but especially for this one. Hathaway dominated from the start and looked way too superior on the ground. Egan tried to do something, but it was no use. Hathaway kept an incredible pace in there and gained an early tko.

Shogun beat Coleman:
Great fight, even tho both fighter looked out of shape. Coleman looked gas in the first round and Shogun was right behind him in the second. The fight was stopped in the third and it was the right thing to do. Coleman took 7 answered punches including a nice uppercut and the ref had no choice but to step in. Like Rogan said tho, Shogun didnt look good at all. When you are rated as one of the top fighters in the world, it shouldnt take you that long to beat a 44 yearl od man.

Hendo beat Franklin:
Im still shocked at that decision. It seemed like Franklin dominated that all fight. Even when Hendo was on top of him, he hardly did anything. Im gonna have to watch this fight again. Im a huge Franklin fan, but maybe it's better this way. I didnt want Rich to drop down to 185 and we've already seen him in the Ultimate Fighter. Hendo vs Bisping to me makes more sense and I'm excited to see him coach the UF.

Re: UFC 93 FRANKLIN vs HENDERSON

Awesome job on the preview here. I thought it was an overall solid pay-per-view.

But does anyone else think that Franklin should have won his fight? I mean I think both fighters gave excellent performances. It was pretty clear to me that Hendo got round one, Franklin got round 3 and round 2 was a little up in the air. But from what I saw Franklin clearly got the nod while standing up. Hendo took Franklin down later in the round but didn't get as much damage on Ace down there as Rich got on Hendo on the feet. Idk, I just thought that was a little weird.

As for Shogun and Coleman, I think Coleman showed more based on expectations than Shogun. Rua could have easily ended the fight in the 2nd round but he didn't learn much about conditioning from the Griffin fight. Extremely disappointed in Shogun but impressed with Coleman's heart. I think Shogun has the right tenacity and technique and showed he can fight the UFC style. He just needs to work on getting his conditioning up so he can live up to his full potential.
