ROSEMONT, Ill. – Anderson Silva spent most of the fight fooling around and not fighting, yet he still retained his UFC middleweight championship with a bizarre TKO of Patrick Cote on Saturday just 39 seconds into the third round at Allstate Arena.
Silva was running circles around the cage and generally goofing off for most of the time. Silva cut Cote with a knee in a dull first round in which little happened, and then did even less in a second round in which he seemed to want to play to the crowd rather than fight.
Cote tried to throw some kind of a leaping punch and as he did, his right knee gave way. He immediately collapsed in pain and was shrieking on the ground. Referee Herb Dean, who was initially confused, stopped the bout and gave Silva the victory.
“I want to apologize to everyone in the stadium and everyone in the arena,” said Silva, who urged the upset fans not to boo Cote.
Cote apologized to the fans, but it was Silva who had the explaining to do. Cote at least was the one who was trying to make the fight, but Silva was playing with him for much of the fight.
With the win, Silva tied the UFC record for consecutive wins with eight, matching Royce Gracie and Jon Fitch.
In the semifinal match, Thiago Alves made his case as the top contender for the welterweight title with a strong victory over a game Josh Koscheck. Alves imposed his will in the stand-up and was able to fend off takedown attempts by Koscheck, who is a former NCAA Division I wrestling champion. Alves won by unanimous decision, with scores of 30-27, 29-28, 29-28.
It was such a god damn disappointing finish. Cote showed a great chin, and I'm not saying he would have won, but I wanted to see how far he could take Anderson.
And I lost some respect for Silva for the amount of showboating he did. If he has class as a champion he will demand a rematch with Cote and fight him again without the lame Roy Jones Jr. wannabe shenanigans.

UFC 90 was on its way to become one hell of a ppv, but the main event turned out to be a big disappointment, with that freak accident to Cote.

The PPV started with a bang and Sean Sherk was able to rebound from his loss to B.J. Penn and beat Tyson Griffin with an unanimous decision. The first round went to Sherk as he landed some nice shots. Griffin was more successful in the second round with some nice combos and made it very tough to judge. The Third round was again very close, with Sean Sherk just edging Tyson Griffin. The fight hardly went to the ground with both guys just happy to exchange bombs. Both guys looked really good an I say this was one of the better fights on the card.

Werdum should have been fighting for the title after beating Gonzaga and Vera, instead he found himself fighting a no namer. No one expected Werdum to lose this fight, but that's exactly what happened. He got caught in the very first round by a devastating right and that was it.

Gray Maynard looked like an All-American wrestler, during his very technical fight with Clementi. Maynard was able to takedown the feared striker time after time. Clementi was never dangerous in this fight and lost by unanimous decision. I think a fight with Nate Diaz would be an exciting one.

This was the fight of the night for me and Thiago Alves should definitely get a Title shot after this unanimous win. He was impressive. His striking is second to none and his takedown defence is amazing. Koscheck fought hard and showed a great chin and ability to recover quick, but he was just no match for Alves. Also Alves kicks were so brutal, that everytime he threw them, it made Josh spin around like a ballerina in that octagon.

This fight was stopped in the third round when Cote (untouched) twisted his knee and couldnt continue. The fight was so exciting with Cote showing confidence and staying very busy with his jab. It also showed how good Silva is, with his movement and game plan. He gave alot of respect to Cote's power and thats why he is the best in the world. He doesnt underestimates anybody and thats a sign of a true champ. The First round I gave it to Cote, who stayed very busy and connected a few times with his punches and kicks. The second round went to Silva who hit Cote with a devasting knee to the head. Very disappointed this fight ended the way it did, cause it was very entertaining to that point.

Do you have a reason not to give The Half Boy your vote for the Hall of Fame?
You know next time don't put the winner in the title, some of us wait a day and DL the fights and I scroll down and see that and it ruins the fight for me, you could put Bizarre happenings in Silva vs Cote fight and still get the message across but this way you ruin the fight for me.

It's all over the news, on espn etc. If you didn't see this you must be blind.
It was even on yahoo.com, I saw it on multiple tv shows.
People avoid all outlets of news when they want to not spoil a show for themselves. I personally don't even log on the net anymore when I'm waiting to see a PPV, wrestling or MMA, but in all honesty Suffy why were you on WC, in the MMA forum when you hadn't seen it yet?
Anyway, UFC 90 was a fantastic show up until the disappointing end to the main event, which was nobodies fault. Silva was so far away from showboating it's untrue though. He was trying to throw Cote off guard, because of all the opponents he's had so far Cote gave Silva the biggest challenge and I believe that had a lot to do with his similar training and style, but Cote was far too clever to be dragged in. Cote was prepared for Silva's game-plan and does totally deserve a rematch because he made The Spider work. I have no doubt Silva would've eventually won the fight, but Cote looked the busier in the first round for sure. It was a very clever fight on Cote's part and I personally cannot wait for the rematch.

Maybe he was saying if I just put bizarre finish then spoiler it wouldn't have been blown for him. For now on I will put spoiler, and be vague. I do see his point.
