MMA - Mixed Martial ArtsDiscuss Mixed Martial Arts fighters here from Fedor Emelianenko to Sean Sherk or maybe you would like to discuss upcoming events from organizations such as UFC, Pride or K-1.
With Affliction’s January show still a mystery outside of a few rumored bouts including a proposed headliner between world-ranked heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio said that the card would not include boxing matches as earlier planned.
“The January show is going to be an all-MMA card,” Atencio told Sherdog.com Thursday. An announcement is forthcoming next week, Atencio said, with a full fight card, dates, and details.
Days after postponing an Oct. 11 event in Las Vegas, Affliction announced its affiliation with boxing’s Golden Boy Promotions and released limited details of a collaboration to include co-inhabited events in the first quarter of 2009.
A rematch between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito was rumored as a candidate to anchor the first crossover card, with a strong supporting cast of MMA bouts filling out the night, including a middleweight bout between recent Dream grand prix winner Gegard Mousasi and Vitor Belfort. Mousasi’s U.S. representation has confirmed that they are considering the bout.
Atencio said Affliction and Golden Boy are still on par to co-promote, just not as early as expected.
“It’s just not something we could work out (by January),” Atencio said of the mixed-sport card. But it is something they will “absolutely” do in the future, he added.
So, MMA/Boxing events. Sounds like nothing more to me than trying to get people interested in boxing again.
On a side note, Fedor/Arlovski will be great.
The destruction of the past is perhaps the greatest of all crimes.

Wasnt Arlovsky supossed to fight Barnett for the right to fight Fedor?
As far as the partnership between Affliction and Golden Boy, I think its a good idea. Boxing will benefit from MMA's popularity and Affliction will gain a few extra fans as well.
From what I've seen, boxing is still more popular than MMA because MMA still gets a bad rep cos it's performed in a cage. People still look at it as human cock fighting and more dangerous than boxing, which is bull because MMA fighters generally take less strikes to the head and have less likelihood of concussions and brain damage.
In my opinion boxing is simply out of date now, and far too dangerous for the competitors within the sport to really justify doing it. MMA is the way forward, boxing is a backward step.
You should really check out more MMA. It's not always a bloody mess, in fact blood is a rarity. When two expert strikers or two BJJ black belts or two wrestlers go at it it can be phenomenal, and beautiful. I recommend you watch the George St. Pierre vs BJ Penn match that is happening soon. These guys are my two favourite fighters in the entire world, and it will be a classic of epic proportions.

i dunno - it reminds me of the romans.
they're going to have weapons next.
if they had the same style of fighters fighting each other it would be boss but this garbage fighting style doesn't do anything for me.
