Tito Ortiz, long one of UFC's most popular fighters, has reached an agreement with the upstart Affliction organization and will fight on its October 11 pay-per-view show in Las Vegas, Steve Cofield is reporting.
Ortiz's opponent will be Renato "Babalu" Sobral, a former UFC fighter who won his match on this month's Affliction: Banned undercard. Babalu called out Ortiz after winning his Affliction fight, which Ortiz attended, and this match-up has been expected since then.
Ortiz is still one of the most popular athletes in mixed martial arts, but he has appeared of late to be past his prime: In his last three fights he has losses to Chuck Liddell and Lyoto Machida sandwiching a draw against Rashad Evans. However, Ortiz does have a win on his record over UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin, which Affliction will no doubt mention a few times in the run-up to the October 11 show.
Babalu is a very experienced fighter with a 30-7 record. He was kicked out of UFC after he failed to let go of an anaconda choke after opponent David Heath had tapped out.
That should be a good fight.
It will be interesting to see if Ortiz continues his losing streak or gets back on track.

It's not 100% yet sir. According to mmaweekly.com:
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz is not out of the Octagon just yet.
Despite several published reports of Ortiz’s whereabouts, Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio today told MMAWeekly.com that he has not signed the popular UFC fighter. Atencio claims that Ortiz’s promotional contract with the Las Vegas based company precludes that.
“I can’t talk to Tito until after August 3rd,” Atencio says. “Everybody just wants to read into it and put whatever they want on the internet.”
Atencio says he is still hard at work confirming the venue for the proposed October 11th date. At this point, most of the card is still a work in progress—including a main event showdown between Andre Arlovski and Fedor Emelianenko.
Ortiz, 33, and UFC president Dana White have had a much-publicized war of words over the past year. Ortiz gave numerous interviews decrying the UFC’s lack of respect for him, while White told a teleconference of reporters gathered for UFC 84 that he no longer wanted to be in “the Tito Ortiz business.”
In a May interview with MMAWeekly Radio, Ortiz said his fight with Lyoto Machida at UFC 84 was his last for Zuffa, and hoped to have fight set up by “September or October.”
“Me going to somewhere else is 100% happening,” said Ortiz.
Atencio hopes to have announcement next week confirming the second show and main events of its card.
“I hate to use the phrase ‘up in the air,’ but it’s in the works is a better term,” Atencio says. "
I think it may be a done deal, but due to a no-compete clause or something of the like, he may not be able to make the deal official. Or that's what it seems based on the comments from Affliction.

Yeah, that is more than likely it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the deal is all ready done but they just can't say so yet. Someone on the inside leaked it and now Affliction has to deny it because they are not supposed to talk to Tito until August 3rd.

I belive we will see the old Tito the winner in Affliction.

Nah, it;ll probably be the same old Tito. I wonder how he will make controversy without Dana around. And then he will loose, give an excuse, and tell us to support the troops. (I have no problem supporting the troops, but Tito seems insincere). I really would like to see him fight Renato though.

This is a great match up for both guys. I wasnt that impressed with Babalu in his last fight, but the guy can fight. Tito hasnt impressed me in awhile either, but a new environment is maybe what he needs. They are both badasses and masters at what they do. Sobral can submit anybody at anytime and Tito is a cardio machine. He is also a great striker. No matter what, I think this fight is going to be entertaining.

Do you have a reason not to give The Half Boy your vote for the Hall of Fame?
Tito is a cardio machine when is back isn't fucked and he can't train. He is saying it's 100% but that could be so people will still pay top dollar for him to fight. Affliction would be bad for Tito, his whole game is GnP against the cage.
