Top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will fight Tim Sylvia (Pictures) on July 19. The Russian mixed martial arts champion confirmed the bout to Sherdog.com on Tuesday.
"[Sylvia] is a good fighter, a strong fighter, the former UFC heavyweight champion, which is important," Emelianenko said via telephone from Stary Oskol, Russia. "I am looking forward to fighting him and training hard for this fight."
While Emelianenko was short on details, Sherdog.com has learned through sources close to the negotiations that Fedor-Sylvia would headline a card tentatively scheduled for the American Airlines Center in Dallas, the home base of HDNet Fights.
I can't wait to see Slyvia get dominated by Fedor. Sylvia doesn't have a chance.

No, Tim Sylvia parted ways with the UFC a while back.
It will be a HDNet fight which is owned by Mark Cuban.

I'm not gonna put any money on him, but if he's healthy, I think Big Tim has a solid chance against Fedor. He's been fighting top fighters, whereas Fedor hasn't fought a ranked fighter in close to 3 yrs. The last fight time I saw recent pix, he looked kinda fat. I think if can manage to keep it standing, Tim has decent chance. Fedor's stand-up is strong but sloppy, and he's been rocked by strikers who weren't even close to as talented as Sylvia (see his fight vs Fujita).

Fedor will be able to take Sylvia down at will. He has been participating in Sambo most of his life. I really don't see any advantage at all for Big Tim. I think it will end early and brutally for Big Tim.
