Re: UFC 81: "Breaking Point" Discussion

Welcome Slayer and you're right.. Lesnar made a crucial rookie mistake there but lets keep in mind that this is only his 2nd career MMA fight. He showed to be very quick and very overpowering. If not for the bullshit point deduction he may have finished Mir who is a more experienced submission style former world champion.

Lesnar could be a real beast in the near future.

Re: UFC 81: "Breaking Point" Discussion

I don't think he made a mistake going to the ground last night. If he would have stayed on top of Mir instead of standing up he probably would have TKO'd him. He made a bad mistake in standing at Mir's feet like he did. If he was going to stand back up he should have gotten far away from Mir and the ref would have had to stand Mir back up.

I think part of it was that Lesnar thought he was so tough he couldn't be submitted. He found out. Lesson learned.

I didn't see much in Lesnar to be honest, most people could have finished Mir from the top like he was doing and his hammer fist didn't seem like they had much behind them. And as predicted he was leaving his arms out all over the place during his ground and pounding leaving him self open for millions of submissions attempts.

Just in case you don't think the stoppage was fair for Lesnar, count 4 blows to the back of the head. fucking rookie isn't worth the money Dana put in to if he keeps that up. I wounder what kind of pot Joe Silva is smoking when he thinks its a good idea to put a Glorified Newbie Wrestler against a BJJ Black Belt in his first match when trying to make him the next champion.

To be fair, Lesnar was throwing punches like mad and Mir was moving his head all over the place to try and avoid them.

I don't think it was fair to deduct a point from Lesnar because Mir turned his head. It wasn't intentional.

I saw a quite a bit in Lesnar and I think he is going to be a serious threat in the HW division.

Its a text book thing to tuck your head in like that when guys are throwing hammer fists though, theres no To Be far about that. Lesnar should have the smarts to push him down and start throwing again insted of hitting him repeatedly in the back of the skull.

Just another reason why he isn't worth the 250,00 he got just to show (to think he would have gotten $200,000 to win just shows how fucking lame Dana is)

Re: UFC 81: "Breaking Point" Discussion

Lesnar can be a threat, if and only if he vastly improves his BJJ game.

Because everyone knows Brock is going to try and take them down so bam you slap on an armbar and he's done because he flails his arms around so much.

He needs to become so well versed in defending submission attempts and then he can be like the Matt Hughes/Sean Sherk of the heavyweights

Actually Mir said in the post fight interview he tried to get an arm bar on Lesnar about two times and failed.

He said Lesnar's arms were so big he ended up going to the weak point, the legs. So it is not going to be so easy to submit a man with arms as big as Lesnars with an armbar.

Re: UFC 81: "Breaking Point" Discussion

Twist, you may be upset about the 250,000 payday that Lesnar got, but in the end the UFC wins. That fight brought in a lot of buys, and got at least 3 new fans in me and my 2 buddies last night. That's the first UFC event I've seen, and I really enjoyed watching it. Lesnar has the opportunity to bring in new fanbase for the UFC, something I'm sure they are happy about.

As for the fight itself, Mir was smart to move his head, and unfortunately for Lesnar, he had a few blows to the back of the head. I agree with Dak in that it wasn't as much a "rookie mistake" as it was Mir being a veteran and knowing when to do what he did. Had Lesnar not landed punches to the back of the head and got Mir some time to recuperate....who knows what would've happened. I'm not saying Lesnar would have won, but the match would've ended differently.

Re: UFC 81: "Breaking Point" Discussion

Brock just looked too awkward when he was throwing punched. He just seemed to go all gung-ho, as if he was on a bonus to finish it early. I think Brock did win some of the fans over in his after match interview. He didn’t come up with any lame excuses, and that shows good character.

How funny was it seeing Austin, JBL, Take, and Angle all at ringside watching the bout.

Oh and for a moment, during the introductions, I feared Bruce Buffer was going to announce Brock as a former WWE Champion. I was all ready to laugh out loud.
