| Hermes Franca update From f4wonline.com
Hermes Franca had the hammer laid down.
His request to the CSAC for leniency fell on deaf ears as they upheld his one year suspension for a failed steroid test. They did tell him that this wouldn't stop him from being able to apply for a license to corner fighters. They did give him credit for being honest and forthright and not "feigning ignorance".
So then it was boxer James Toney's turn.
He also failed a steroid test, for two different drugs.
He feigned ignorance, saying he had been disrespected by a commissioner, and that his recent steroid test failure was the result of contaminated supplements. One of the steroids happened to be boldenone, a powerful veterinary steroid. So after upholding Franca's suspension, what did the commission rule for Toney, who had apparently taken a veterinary steroid which cannot be prescribed for humans and had, in fact, failed another steroid test two years earlier?
Well, they ruled that his suspension should be cut in half. Swear to God.
Dr. Chris Giza was appalled, saying aside from this supposed contamination Toney had not produced any evidence whatsoever for his claim. Giza was still outvoted 6-1. Listen, I think Franca's suspension should have been upheld because his story of why he took the steroids doesn't match up with what the steroids in question are used for (he claimed injury rehab, but they're largely used for getting cut up -- weight cutting, basically -- in bodybuilding), but for him to get a year and Toney to get six months on a second offense with a steroid you never hear about as a contaminant, THAT is some bullshit. |
