Nick Diaz Returns September 15th For The Next EXC Show
Quote:
Former UFC fighter Nick Diaz (15-6 MMA, 6-4 UFC), who hasn’t fought since his PRIDE 33 victory over lightweight champion Takanori Gomi was ruled a no-contest because of a failed drug test (marijuana), will return to action at an Elite Xtreme Combat show set for Sept. 15.
The event takes place in Honolulu, Hawaii and will likely feature a main event between Murilo “Ninja” Rua and ICON middleweight champ (and former UFC fighter) Robbie Lawler, according to EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw.
Shaw discussed the upcoming fights during a media conference call today.
An opponent for Diaz hasn’t yet been named.
Diaz fought some of the sport’s biggest names during a three-year stretch in the UFC (2003-2006). After a less-than-cordial break from the organization, he signed a deal with the upstart EliteXC organization but was granted permission to fight in a February PRIDE show that took place in Las Vegas. Shaw made special mention of that allowance.
“We’ve kept our word about signing fighters and letting them fight in other organizations,” said Shaw, who continually stresses EliteXC’s good relationships with its fighters.
Diaz, who scored a submission victory via gogoplata over Gomi at PRIDE 33, tested positive for marijuana in his post-fight drug test. Two months later, the Nevada State Athletic Commission erased the win from his record and also suspended Diaz for six months from the date of his fight and fined him $3,000.
His Sept. 15 EliteXC fight will be his first since the suspenion.
Diaz, a Brazilian Jiu Jistu black belt under Cesar Gracie, is the older brother of The Ultimate Fighter 5 winner Nate Diaz.
For the win, Thats my birthday lol
