LIVE PRELIM FIGHTS
Fight #1:
-Matt Wiman vs. Brian Geraghty
Round 1: Geraghty lands a good uppercut early but Wiman takes him down. Wiman is working very effective ground and pound and transitions into full mount. Geraghty turns his back and Wiman continues to pound on him until the referee jumps in to stop the fight.
Matt Wiman def. Brian Geraghty via TKO (strikes) at 2:09 of Round 1.
Fight #2:
-Leonard Garcia vs. Allen Berube
Round 1: The two clinch to open round one. Berubie takes Garcia down with an inside-leg trip. Garcia scrambles back to his feet and pulls guard while securing a guillotine choke. Berubie escapes and the two scramble again. Berubie tries a guillotine choke of his own. Berubie is in Garcia's half guard on top, but Garcia sweeps and gets Berubie's back during another scramble. He sinks in a rear naked choke and gets the tap out.
Leonard Garcia def. Allen Berubie via Submission (rear naked choke) at 4:22 of Round 1.
Fight #3:
-Gray Maynard vs. Rob Emerson
Round 1: Maynard comes out landing some good shots but gets taken down. Maynard sweeps though and goes for an armbar that misses. Maynard is working knees and elbows on the ground and looking to improve his position. Maynard does and gains mount. Emerson gives him his back and Maynard slugs away until the horn sounds to end the round.
Round 2: Maynard lands an uppercut early and slams Emerson to the ground. Emerson is injured and taps during the slam, but Maynard knocks himself unconscious during the takedown. Weird stuff. Maynard complains after the fight that he was not out but the replays would suggest otherwise. Fight is ruled a no contest.
Gray Maynard and Rob Emerson fight to a No Contest after 1 Round.
Fight #4:
-Cole Miller vs. Andy Wang
Round 1: Miller lands a left high kick that drops Wang early in the round. He moves in quickly with punches to seal the deal.
Cole Miller def. Andy Wang via TKO (strikes) at 1:10 of Round 1.
Fight #5:
-Joe Lauzon vs. Brandon Melendez
Round 1: Lauzon landing some good shots here to open the first round. Lauzon shoots in early and gets a double-leg takedown. He quickly transitions to full mount. Round ends.
Round 2: Lauzon begins the second with another double-leg takedown. He again gets mount quickly. Melendez gives his back and Lauzon is working for a rear naked choke. Melendez escapes and turns, but is immediately caught in a triangle choke. He taps out and the fight is over.
Joe Lauzon def. Brandon Melendez via Submission (triangle choke) at 2:09 of Round 2.
LIVE TV FIGHTS
Fight #6:
-Roger Huerta vs. Doug Evans
Round 1: Awesome first round. MMANews.com has it 10-9 Evans. They were all over the place. Evans had Huerta's back and almost had a rear naked choke a few times. Late in the round, Evans hurt Huerta standing and took him down again. Crazy action in round one, but I think Evans takes it.
Round 2: We get a finish inside the second. Action all over the place again before the finish. Huerta came out out-striking the shit out of Evans until getting taken down. He scrambles up but gets taken down again. This time he manages to sweep Evans and on top eventually gains full mount. Evans turns his back and Huerta punches away until the referee jumps in to stop the fight. Great fight.
Roger Huerta def. Doug Evans via TKO (strikes) at 3:30 of Round 2.
Fight #7:
-Thales Leites vs. Floyd Sword
Round 1: The two stood and traded briefly early in the round but Leites gets a takedown. Leites is hammering away at Sword. He slaps on an arm-triangle and slowly tightens it to eventually get the tap out and the victory.
Thales Leites def. Floyd Sword via Submission (side-choke) at 3:50 of Round 1.
Fight #8:
-Nate Diaz vs. Manny Gamburyan
Round 1: Alright after some prelims and hype, finally we're back to another live fight. With Ricky Hatton vs. Jose Luis Castillo a few hundred channels north on a premium channel, they need to be careful how leisurely their breaks between fights gets. Anyways, here we go. Nevermind, Nate Diaz is still coming to the cage and the Hatton-Castillo fight is over via body shot knockout in the fourth round. Hatton wins. NOW here we go.
Manny's round, 10-9. He got takedowns at will and was blasting Diaz on the ground with punches. Diaz had a few submission attempts, but nothing really dangerous and Manny controlled the pace and the position of the fight from the get-go.
Round 2: Manny Gamburyan dislocates his shoulder (or some kind of freak arm injury) during a takedown attempt that Diaz sprawled. Diaz was punching him and Manny tapped due to his arm being badly injured. Freak thing, unfortunate circumstances for Manny (and me, I had money on him.)
Nate Diaz def. Manny Gamburyan via Submission (tapout due to injury) at 0:20 of Round 2 to become the TUF 5 winner.
Fight #9:
-B.J. Penn vs. Jens Pulver
Round 1: They're airing Cole Miller vs. Andy Wang now. This fight is only 70 seconds though, so add in a commercial and a post-fight interview, shouldn't be half as bad as the gap between Leites-Sword and Diaz-Gamburyan. That prelim is now over and Bruce Buffer is doing his thing right-quick. Stick with us! Ok we have a BJ Penn pre-fight hype video package. That obviously means Pulver has one next. After that we'll likely have our ring-walks, Bruce Buffer announcements, staredown and then round one begins. Keep it here. Alright, round one is now officially underway. Keep refreshing this page for updates.
Awesome first round. Penn comes out landing a couple big shots on Pulver, stunning him briefly. He takes him down with a big scoop-slam takedown. He almost gets an armbar, had it full on - but somehow Pulver got out (or Penn just let it go). Penn sets up a triangle from the top and Pulver turns right over into it. He eventually escapes and spends the majority of the rest of the round (about two minutes) on top not doing much, but landing a shot here and there. Penn scrambles up near the end and lands a couple good shots. Pulver landed a few too. 10-9 Penn.
Round 2: Penn takes Pulver down quickly in the second. He gains mount and is grounding and pounding viciously. Pulver gives him his back and Penn just pounds some more. Pulver rounds back into mount and Penn is punishing him some more with elbows. Pulver rolls again and Penn traps an arm and sinks in the rear naked choke. He gets the tap out and the victory. He keeps the choke on a little longer after the ref jumps in following the tap, but the two embrace and hug and make their peace.
B.J. Penn def. Jens Pulver via Submission (rear naked choke) in Round 2.
An okay fight card, alot of weird endings in Manvel (which i'm happy nate won still) and Gray Vs Emerson (which was funny as hell to see Gray freak out the descision). However Pulver vs Penn was awesome and the Punch from gray to emersons rib cage was nasty as hell.
Stay Classy Boston

Re: The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale; Penn Vs Pulver II Results
Some bizzare endings indeed.
I was glad Diaz won, but I didn't like the way it ended. Manny had done so much work to get there, that it's sad to see him losing like that. Hopefully they'll both fight again sometime down the road.
I didn't think BJ was going to let go of the choke at the end, I was thinking this could get ugly. But credit to both guys, they've had their differences, but they were man enough to hug at the end. It was a nice touch.
