As noted in a post last week, I was surprised by the announcement from Spike TV that Marlon Sims and Noah Thomas would be fighting this month on the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter 5.
I wasn't the only one.
"They're not fighting on the finale," said UFC President Dana White. "Not only are they not fighting in the finale, they'll never fight in the UFC. Spike wanted that fight. It ain't gonna happen. No (expletive) way is that fight going to happen. Those guys will never fight in the UFC - ever."
White told Brawl Sports today that the news release issued by Spike on May 29 announcing the fight and the "second chance" granted to the backyard brawlers was "a huge mistake."
So how exactly did this release ever hit the wire?
"Mistakes happen. I didn't find out about it until yesterday. We make mistakes over here ... it's unfortunate."
Hmm. Let me get this straight. The president of the UFC -- a self-professed control freak -- didn't sign off on the announcement and didn't actually find out about the fight until yesterday.
The skeptic in me is having a hard time swallowing that one.
White is the UFC. He knows when his fighters blow their noses. In front of the cameras, he was livid about what went down. He lit into Sims and Thomas on the TUF episode that featured the backyard fight between the two lightweights. And, you're telling me no one consulted the head of the organization and the executive producer of the show about bringing these two guys back?
In our discussion today, White talked about a ridiculously hectic travel schedule that has had him on the road nonstop for the past several weeks. Is it possible that this detail slipped through the cracks? Is it also possible that the fight got the green light and after backlash from fans, the UFC had a change of heart?
I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Something doesn't smell quite right to me.
Regardless of how the decision was ultimately reached, it's the right one. Allowing Sims and Thomas on the season finale would have condoned their irresponsible actions.

Thank god, they didn't deserve to be on TV after that fight

Sorry for the late reply on this one, but I’ve only just caught up with this season.
I’m glad neither will be on the finale. As Dana said, they showed a total disrespect for the sport. They are not UFC Warriors. They should never even be considered athletes. They are nothing but thugs. Sims seemed like a jerk anyway, and Noah didn't seem to listen much in practice anyway. Neither will be a big loss.
No... like when the time he was in the amazon fighting with sliverback apes and he took on 7 at once while completing 2 rubix cubes, one in each hand....
