From Figure Four Weekly/ Wrestling Observer -
Matt Serra was irate about comments Georges St. Pierre had made about how he wasn't in shape and wouldn't have taken the fight if it were against Matt Hughes, but he took it because he figured he could have beaten Serra.
Serra told MMA Weekly Radio: "Think about what he said. If it was Matt Hughes I would have not took the fight, but since it was Matt Serra, I figure I could beat him easy. Hey dude, fuck you. How about that? I thought we were cool and then you start saying stuff like this. And then what? You think you’re going back to New York to train at Renzo's? I don’t think so bro. Cancel that plane ticket. We’ll see if that’s going down. You know what I mean? You know what that’s like? Renzo's, that’s where I grew up, over at Renzo's. That’s like me going over to somebody’s house and saying, you know what? Your wife cooks like shit, your house is a mess, and by the way, I’ll be back in a couple of weeks. Don’t be disrespecting me and thinking you’re coming back to my house. ‘Maybe I will challenge myself. I will try to submit him.’ Hey dude, you’re full of shit. You’re not even training are you Frenchy? You know what I mean? Drink your red wine, go to your hockey game, and shut the fuck up." So St. Pierre went on the Sherdog show and said Serra misunderstood.
He said he didn't mean Serra wasn't as good as Hughes, but rather he felt that the Hughes fight was his last chance and therefore he needed to be 100 percent going into that one (and since he wasn't 100 percent the first time it was scheduled he pulled out). He said he was trying to analyze why he lost the fight and his conclusion might have come across poorly.
He said people were making a lot of excuses for him and accusing him of a lot of things, such as partying too hard beforehand, and he wanted to clear the air. He said it was a mistake to say what he did, and if he took the fight hurt he should have just kept that secret. Lots of fighters learning that lesson these days. He said a lot of bad stuff was going on in his personal life and he just cracked under the pressure and felt he had to say something.
He apologized and wished Serra all the best in his fight with Hughes. He said he had some issues in his personal life and with his training that he figured he didn't have to fix at the time because he was winning, but now that he lost it was clear he needed to fix them. He said he would be training with Greg Jackson and would be prepared to beat Josh Koscheck. He better be, because while Koscheck isn't the better fighter he is a hard man to defeat.
Well he was irate!
