Former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner (32-6 MMA, 11-4 UFC) appears to be serious about his intentions of returning to the UFC.
The UFC veteran, who hasn’t fought in the organization since defeating Justin Levens via submission at UFC 59 more than a year ago, recently announced that he was putting his plans for a charitable foundation on hold while he attempts to regain the middleweight belt.
That return just took one step closer to fruition, according to an update on Tanner’s official Web site.

From evantanner.net:
I have sold my house and have sold or given away everything I own except my books and my memories. Great accomplishment requires great sacrifice. [This] morning we’ll be driving south to begin training.
Tanner defeated David Terrell at UFC 51 to win the UFC middleweight championship, but he was TKO’d by Rich Franklin in his very next fight at UFC 53.
However, at 11-4 over seven years in the Octagon, the 36-year-old is one of the UFC’s winningest and most-experienced fighters.
Assuming Tanner heads back to the UFC’s middleweight division, he could have an immediate impact. Arguably the most talent-starved of all the UFC’s weight classes, the 185-pounders include current champion Anderson Silva and just a handful of contenders, including Rich Franklin, Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami
He'd be a good gate keeper imo, hes not getting his title back from Silva or Franklin
