From Figure Four Weekly/ Wrestling Observer -
Tim Sylvia underwent back surgery last Monday.
He told MMA Weekly that he was pain free and waiting to get clearance from his doctor so he could start training again. He made mention of this after losing the heavyweight title to Randy Couture and got booed out of the building, so he quickly backtracked and said no, Randy was absolutely the better man this evening and beat me fair and square. He later regretted ever bringing it up.
“I had three bulged discs," he said. "It was pinching my sciatic nerve. What they did is they made a 4-inch incision on my spine, went in and moved the nerves aside and cut the bulges off that were hindering the sciatic nerve. I feel great. I have lots of feeling in my left foot. The tingling down my leg, the huge pain in my buttocks and hamstring are no longer there.” To be fair, that would have been a bitch to fight on.
