Discuss Mixed Martial Arts fighters here from Fedor Emelianenko to Sean Sherk or maybe you would like to discuss upcoming events from organizations such as UFC, Pride or K-1.
Round 1: Yoshihiro Nakao defeated Edson Drago in the first round via submission, Tito Ortiz-over-Yuki Kondo-choke at the end of the first round. Pretty competitive up until that point, with both guys having their moments.
Yoshihiro Nakao def. Edson Drago via Submission (neck-crank) in Round 1.
Fight #2:
-Butterbean vs. Zulu
Round 1: Butterbean wins. The two slug early, roll around like giant huge bodies until Butterbean winds up on top. He eventually catches him (missed the submission, think it was kimura - was setting up PRIDE pbp and taking down UFC pbp). Butterbean got choked up thanking Japanese management for all their help, etc. Almost had some tears from the big-boy due to the sale to those dastardly Fertitta's! Still drunk. We continue.
Butterbean def. Zulu via Submission (kimura?) in Round 1.
Fight #3:
-Zelg Galesic vs. Makoto Takimoto
Round 1: Okay, I lived up to expectations for UFC "most-detailed results coverage". Can't here. Sherdog or someone wins this one. But I'll let everyone know how shit ends. Damn that 10 minute first-round! Who at 4:00AM intoxicated can remember 10 minutes of MMA action to write in detail in the minute we get between rounds, before a bunch of other shit happens?! Takimoto wins, was taking a piss and missed it lol. Replays is only showing Galesic trying a Sakuraba flying stomp onto a grounded Takimoto. He's (Takimoto) doing his celebration speech though now, so he definitely won. Wish I had more, sorry! WE CONTINUE!
Makoto Takimoto def. Zelg Galesic via Submission (kimura) in Round 1.
Fight #4:
-Gilbert Yvel vs. Akira Shoji
Round 1: Yvel wins by TKO from strikes on top of Shoji, ref stoppage. Definitely a legit stoppage. Each were playing footsies, trying ankle locks on each other ala Ken Shamrock-Don Frye. Yvel scrambled on top and pounded the shit out of Shoji for about 10-15 seconds until the ref jumped in. I don't know Yvel's recent record, only familiar with his earlier PRIDE days, but I'm thinking this is his first win in ages (even if against a much smaller, pretty much journeyman fighter).
Gilbert Yvel def. Akira Shoji via TKO (strikes) in Round 1.
Fight #5:
-Don Frye vs. James Thompson
Round 1: Up now. They're showing Don Frye (by the way I'm watching the Japanese feed and these people fucking LOVE Don Frye...I already knew that but even still, wow). Cool little package. BEST STAREDOWN EVER! The two are grinding faces nose-to-nose in vicious fashion, to the enjoyment of the crowd. That was crazy. Frye drops Thompson early. They do the Frye-Takayama punch-to-punch in-close shit! WOW!!! Ref break, Thompson takes Frye down. Between the staredown and the EXACT same Frye-Takayama fighting exchange, depending on how this ends, we might get some "work" cries from forum people. WE CONTINUE! The two up, Frye takes Thompson down. Frye pulls Thompson down into a guillotine, "give-up?" ref-shouts. Thompson escapes and is on top pounding. They stand up and beat the holy shit out of each other! Well, mostly Thompson. I was yelling to the point of getting scolded by roommates for yelling-volume. Oh well, that was absolutely insane. Thompson wins.
James Thompson def. Don Frye via TKO (strikes) in Round 1.
Didn't fall asleep. We're dealing with intermission here on the Japanese feed. Don't bother watching other sites to see when the next fight starts, we'll know first! Japan broadcast of PRIDE = ratings. If you ain't heard, you better axe somebody. Not a typo. WE CONTINUE!
History of PRIDE video montage' is airing. Sakikibara is talking very emotionally now in pre-PPV UFC style interview. They're showing octagons and such from UFC events so they're obviously talking about the sale. Also, since I haven't mentioned it yet - almost everyone who's gotten a mic after their fight tonight (win or lose, literally everyone) has thanked Sakikibara and gave him their own personal message. Shit, as soon as I finished typing and uploaded the last update, I saw the end of Sakikibara's speech and it had ENGLISH SUBTITLES! I missed it, and it ended with a plug to the PRIDE decade DVD coming out (or out already) so I might've been wrong about the whole concept behind the video package there.
We're backstage with a Josh Thompson interview through a Japanese reporter and translator. They did a ton of post-fight mutual ass-kissing after their war also. The fact I'm covering this intermission so in-depth. Damnit, it's 5AM and I'm on about 5 hours of sleep from last night still bringing it. Still drinking too, I see myself making it to the end now, but probably leaving play-by-play re-directs and such on 40-plus sites (wrestling and MMA) until about 2PM tomorrow afternoon when I fix it with a mean headache. **WE MOTHA-FN CONTINUE**...
Takada is in the ring now cutting his own "goodbye" promo, I'm guessing. Christ this needs to end already. CAN WE FINISH PLEASE?! He kept going, he cried and whatever.
Sorry, not done yet. Sakikibara is in the ring now giving his goodbye speech. What is the U.S. PPV feed airing during this? Someone tell me. I can't believe they'd do a PPV live in the U.S. at this incredibly late hour and STILL have an intermission with only three fights left that lasted about an hour.
Sakuraba came out with a tiger-mask on! Someone else is coming out now. Hold on.
Kiyoshi Tamura is coming out now in a suit. Are they FINALLY going to give the Japanese this fight? Did the Fertitta's REALLY start off on this INCREDIBLY right foot?! They're babbling on in Japanese about something in this ridiculously long intermission. I'm pretty sure I'm right on my guess. For those who don't know, this is Rock-Hogan, Ali-Frazier, Liddell-Ortiz in MMA in Japan. That country has been waiting to see Sakuraba vs. Tamura forever. Other than proving themselves to the Japanese market in this new deal, the Fertitta's had to spend an assload to put that together, despite the fact that U.S. fans could give a holy shit. That's dedication, people. Already got a bunch of IMs, yes Sakuraba is a K-1 fighter. Does his contract still exist with them for more fights? I honestly don't know, and am way too drunk to check. Something tells me it is and the Feritta's just dumped money to prove themselves to the Japan market. I was told in private that Joe Silva is doing the match-making for the new Zuffa-ran PRIDE (was never told if he's still doing UFC too, which would seem impossible, the poor bastard) so it'd make sense. That guy knows what he's doing. Just like Vince McMahon telling his WWE fans "I know what you want more than you do."
Fight #6:
-Shinya Aoki vs. Brian Lo-A-Njoe
Round 1: Aoki wins quickly by armbar. By the way, Aoki doesn't look right via text how it sounds at this point. Is that alcohol and insomnia mixing together? Aoki armbars Brian-whoever quickly, although Brian-whoever put up a good fight until the finish. WE CONTINUE!
Shinya Aoki def. Brian Lo-A-Njoe via Submission (armbar) in Round 1.
Fight #7:
-Ricardo Arona vs. Sokoudjou
Round 1: Red-headed weird-voiced American ring-announcer for PRIDE (who's on hyphen count already?) did Sokoudjou's name better than anyone (until Arona, she's doing it as I type now, bout to get to that). She almost did a fake stutter for Sokoudjou, only doing the name I just typed (not Reimmy Thiemmy or whatever the rest is, no disrespect). She did Arona's even better just now lol. They gave her too much tongue-vibrating vowels and whatnot to play with in his country and name. **WE CONTINUE AT ALMOST 6AM**. I missed the whole fight taking a piss (so it wasn't long, even though it was a shitload of piss) but Sokoudjou won. I ain't kidding. Lemme get the replay for more, hold on. Ok, don't know what heppened until the finish, but on the replay we see Arona going for a takedown, Sokoudjou backing up a tad and landing a nice uppercut that floored Arona. He followed in with punches and stomps to seal the deal quickly.
Sokoudjou def. Ricardo Arona via TKO (strikes) in Round 1.
NOTE:
Fertitta's done stumbled into a new era at 205 lbs. in PRIDE when they bought the company. You don't just "accidentally" beat Lil Nog and Arona by quick-first round knockout in your first two fights on the big stage. REAL DEAL PEOPLE. The drunkest retard awake on the east coast at 6AM just made that fact.
Fight #8:
-Jeff Monson vs. Kazuyuki Fujita
Round 1: Fujita is out first to the traditional PRIDE theme. Damnit, I love his Muhammad Ali-Antoni Inoki borrowed-music. Sadness. Gee, wonder what music Monson will walk too? Does anyone care about this main event? No more questions. WE CONTINUE! Whoops, Monson is already in there. We'll assume he came out to traditional UFC theme-music. Sakikibara is on announcing for the Japanese feed. Staredown time. First round begins. Relatively boring fight. Monson wins by rear naked choke in the first.
Jeff Monson def. Kazuyuki Fujita via Submission (rear naked choke) in Round 1
.
Well, None of the fights went over round one, but good help me if this wasnt a boring ass ppv.
I found a poor man once
He was the age of fifty-three
He spoke about the government
And the thought of being free
What good does us reason if we fail to see?
What good does us freedom if we fail to be free
