Most Brazilian fighters have always had a problem with fighting their friends or just other fighters that they train with with the biggest example probably being Anderson Silva refusing to fight Machida. It's even the same with Greg Jackson's camp with the Rashad situation and what not.
I have respect for Vitor being able to see through the bullshit and stepping up to fight Silva which makes it pretty obvious that I don't agree with people refusing to fight friends and/or training partners. You should just fight whoever is put infront of you and if one of your friends happens to be in your way then you bear them like you would anyone else.

I don't think its something you can make any sort of standard rule on, because every fighter is different. Some fighters approach every fight in that "it doesn't matter who is in the cage/ring with me" mentality. So to them, having a friend as their opponent probably wouldn't make a difference. For some fighters, they have to look at their opponent as the "enemy". Its part of their mental preparation. Its how they motivate themselves. If they are to fight a friend, they likely can't do that. So they can't prepare for the fight as they normally would, which makes it a handicap, like they are going into the fight with an injury. So while I do find it annoying at times, I also do understand it.

I get why they do it, but I really don't think it should matter. The whole nature of MMA is testing your skill, not beating up your opponent, I'm stereotyping here, but I think if anyone would understand that, it's the Brazilians, that's what the Brazilians should tell each other if they are going to fight each other. Tell one an other it's going to be a respectful and honorable fight, with no bad intentions. I don't get why they can't look at it like that. If I were fighting a close friend of mine, I'd say the same thing. If that was said, you could train like it was any other fight.

I agree with this. I don't really mind for the most part if training partners or friends don't want to fight each other. Examples of situations where I don't really care is the Silva/Machida situation and the Rashad situation. Yeah, Silva vs. Machida would be an awesome fight but it's only a superfight so them not wanting to face each other doesn't really affect their divisions or title situations. However, scenarios like the American Kickboxing Academy situation is one were it gets pretty ridiculous. I've been pretty vocal about this and while I like Fitch, Koscheck and Swick, their refusal to fight each other is really screwing up the welterweight division and making it difficult to crown a legit contender.
