Following his UFC 100 knockout victory over Michael Bisping, Dan Henderson found himself in a rare spot for fighters: coming off a UFC win without any contracted fights left.
While UFC officials may have thought a new deal easily could be reached, the two sides apparently have very different opinions regarding what the 39-year-old fighter's services are worth.
But Henderson (25-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who earned a base pay of $250,000 ($150,00 of which was a win bonus) for the Bisping win, recently told HDNet's "Inside MMA" that he won't be heading to a rival organization.
"I don't plan on fighting anywhere else," said Henderson, who reportedly met with Strikeforce officials, during the Sept. 18 edition of the show. "It never even entered my mind that I'd be anywhere else. It's just something myself, Dana (White) and the other guys over there at the UFC, we need to sit down and figure it out for my next fight."
Before and after Henderson's win over Bisping in July, White said the former PRIDE champion would likely be the next to challenge for Anderson Silva's middleweight belt. But Silva, who defeated Henderson via second-round submission in March 2008, and his camp have expressed disinterest in a rematch. Silva, meanwhile, is expected to fight Vitor Belfort at UFC 108 in January.
Henderson hinted a fight with Nate Marquardt, a fellow top contender who's also suffered a previous loss to Silva, could be next.
"It doesn't look like it'll be him," Henderson said of Silva. "But my guess is my next two fights will be Marquardt and Anderson Silva. It doesn't matter to me which order they're in."

Looks like he doesn't want to go with Strikeforce.

I expect him to come to terms with UFC. When it comes down to it, it'll be less money but good fights in the UFC or potentially more money but lesser quality fights. Hendo would have much more value for Strikeforce than the UFC so I'm sure they would pay him good. 'But on the article JD just posted, of course he doesn't want to go to Strikeforce. Almost every fighter in the world would rather fight in the UFC with the exception of Fedor. 'But like I said, it'll probably come down to what situation sounds better to him.

Machida successfully defending the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship with his face.
CHICAGO – Dan Henderson, the power-punching ex-two division PRIDE champion, will be at the Sears Centre on Saturday for the Strikeforce mixed martial arts card that will air on CBS.
Whether he will have a signed Strikeforce contract when he appears to work the corner of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou is another matter entirely.
A source close to the situation told Yahoo! Sports on Monday that Henderson had signed with Strikeforce, spurning the Ultimate Fighting Championship, for whom he has fought since 2007. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker on Tuesday admitted to having talks with Henderson, but denied he has been signed.
More From Kevin Iole
Enter into the fray UFC president Dana White, who had been personally involved in the negotiations with Henderson.
White said Wednesday, “I guarantee you 1,000 percent that Dan Henderson is signed by Strikeforce.”
Appraised of White’s stance after Wednesday’s news conference to promote Saturday’s card featuring a heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers, Coker grinned wanly.
“Honestly, I got a call from Dan’s management a couple of days ago telling me Dan had turned down the UFC’s offer,” Coker said. “I guess the UFC made an offer and put a deadline on it. They turned it down and were calling to talk to me, but I told him I have this huge fight and there’s a tremendous amount going on and I couldn’t really deal with it at this point.”
Henderson, 39, remains one of the world’s top middleweights, though he also can fight at light heavyweight. He is 25-7 overall and 5-2 in the UFC, and is coming off a one-punch knockout of Michael Bisping at UFC 100 on July 11 in Las Vegas.
White said he wanted to re-sign Henderson, but not at the price Henderson proposed. Henderson had been in the mix to fight UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. White said he had no hard feelings toward Henderson.
“Dan and I have been friends and we will continue to be friends, but it just didn’t work out and he went to Strikeforce,” White said.
Coker conceded he’d love to have Henderson under contract, but said White’s information is incorrect.
“Everyone who watches MMA knows the kind of fighter Dan Henderson is,” Coker said. “He’s a tough, aggressive, fun guy to watch. Who wouldn’t want a guy like that? Of course we do, and that’s why we’ve spoken with them.
“Honestly, though, we don’t have a deal with him yet. I’ve been up to my eyeballs working on this fight and I just haven’t had time to deal with that yet.”

I've said it before and I'll say it again, he is already loaded and the money he was asking for makes him a money chasing bitch. He has fought at the highest level for the longest time and owns his own apparel line so why the fuck does he need money? At his age and at this point in his career he should just be happy fighting at the highest level without money being an issue.

Its tough to know the motivation behind what appears to be simple greed. To some, it truly is a matter of respect - they look at what peers are getting and truly believe they should be on equal footing. So if Hendo is comparing himself to the likes of GSP and Brock Lesnar, then asking for huge money makes sense. In an objective sense, its obvious that Hendo is not as much of a draw as those two, but how honest would Hendo to be with himself in that regard?
Even if it is simply a desire for money, you cannot know someone's financial situation. Sure, he's made a fair amount of money through his career, but does that mean its all still sitting in a bank account? Who knows how its been spent or maybe a ton was invested and lost?
Without knowing someone's personal situation, I don't know that you can just say that they are being greedy and should be happy to take whatever. Things are rarely that simple, either in fighting or other sports.

You didn't adress that he has his own MMA apparel line, regardless to the money that he has earned through fight money over the years, he has money, it's pretty apparent that he has.
If he was desperate for money then he would have settled for what Dana was willing to offer. Him and Dana are friends, if he was having financial troubles then Dana would have given it to him surely.

People have a right to get a fair price for their services.
We don't know what the deal was and we don't know what some of the other fighters make.
We can make assumptions all day but it isn't going to get us anywhere.
If Dana did offer him lower than he deserves I don't think he should have accepted just because 'he is all ready rich'.

K, first of all I don't actually know what he was asking for but it's a widespread opinion that he was asking for way too much and simply more than he's worth tbh, which does sound harsh but hey.
Secondly, we don't know how much some fighters make? The salaries get revealed after every show Dak...
