All I saw Hendo do was block a takedown, approach, and go for the knockout. That's not much of a strategy. Bisping tried to work it from different approaches, but he had poor execution.
I'm sorry, but I have to ask - how many of Dan Henderson's fights have you seen?
Hendo might not have great submissions, but he is pretty well rounded. And very experienced. He's been in fights with great BJJ guys - Murilo Bustamante, Big Nog, Palhares - and yet his only two losses by sub have been by Nogueira. He's been in there against great strikers - Rampage, Vitor Belfort, Anderson Silva, Rich Franklin - and how often does he get bettered in the stand up? He's fought really good Muay Thai guys - Silva, Silva. He's fought some good good wrestlers like Rampage. Basically, Henderson has few holes in his game either.
Hendo's plan of keeping it standing and using his big right has been his strategy in many many fights. He will use control and wrestling if necessary, but its just not necessary in some fights... like this one. Look at some of the names he's beaten with that approach. And given that he was able to push the fight to what he wanted, so that it followed his strengths, I'd say that's the definition of a well-executed game plan. Saying that keeping it standing at distance so that you can use your advantages is not a game plan at all is like saying that Chuck Liddell looking for the counter punch isn't a gameplan or Brock Lesnar looking to take it ground to impose his will isn't a game plan.
Given Bisping's apparent game plan was one he didn't necessarily have the ability to execute, I'd say that's a pretty poor game plan. I'll take simple and effective any day.
