“Before he was my friend, and I trained with him for a long time in Brazil before he (left). But I don’t know why he started talking bullshit about me in Brazil. I don’t know why … I think I’m inconveniencing him, understand? Because he knows who I am, and he knows it’s possible he’s in trouble with me.”
– Former PRIDE middleweight champion (93 kg/ 205 pounds), Wanderlei Silva, comments on his former friend/training partner and reigning UFC Middleweight Champion (185 pounds), Anderson Silva, during the recent UFC 99 media conference call. “The Axe Murderer” will face former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin at “The Comeback” at a catchweight of 195 pounds. It will be a transitional fight for Wanderlei, who looks to make the full drop to 185 pounds immediately following. The former Chute Boxe teammates are not shy about the fact that they haven’t seen eye-to-eye in a while. After leaving the team, “The Spider” was reportedly forbidden by Chute Boxe coach Rudimar Fedrigo from competing in PRIDE, where Wanderlei was the champion — until, that is, his friend, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira intervened. Now that Anderson is the champion, Wanderlei showed no hesitation in moving down in weight for what he said is to “fight against the best guys in the world, every time.” Anderson has stated Wanderlei’s move is “pretentious.” And the war of words continues!
Re: Anderson Silva is in trouble with Wanderlei Silva
Anderson would kill Wanderlei, and Im a Wanderlei fan. Its just that Anderson is 6'2 while Wanderlei is like 5'll and Anderson has lethal knees from the clinch. I cant see Wanderlei being able to do much damage to the head of Anderson from the clinch, being so much shorter so that leaves body shots, which can be block pretty easy by Anderson. On the ground, Anderson BJJ could be the difference. Just Knock out Rich, Wanderlei, Anderson is one of the big boys now.
Re: Anderson Silva is in trouble with Wanderlei Silva
Oh I completely agree that Anderson would very likely be too good for Wandi in likely every sense, but with Wandi there is always a chance that he will catch you with a lethal shot. But I guess that would be Wandi's only chance at all.
Re: Anderson Silva is in trouble with Wanderlei Silva
Would almost be surprised if the UFC doensn't make this fight somewhere in the near future. These two have been trading words fora while now.... Time to trade muay thai clinches!
I expect Anderson would win, but I think Wanderlei could pressure him and present him with problems he hasn't faced.

If he is aggressive, Wanderlei will pressure - that's not something Silva has really faced of late. And pressure from Wanderlei is a bit different, because of the weird way he throws punches. He is also capable of throwing some nice knees, something which I don't think most of Anderson's opponents have been able to. And Wanderlei is plenty capable with the Muay Thai clinch, though he's shown it rarely in the UFC. It means that Anderson won't have the significant advantage with the clinch he usually does. Simply the fact that Anderson trained with Chute Box back in the day means Wanderlei may have a degree of familiarit with his style, timing, etc, that other opponets wouldn't have.
This would've been a very very interesting fight if this was Wanderlei from 5 years ago, when you could stun him but couldn't KO him. As it stands, its one of the more interesting and likely exciting fights that the UFC and put together for Anderson Silva at 185.

Just like Papa said, Wandy of 5 years ago would have caused many problems for Anderson, but today he would be no match for The Spider. The problem with Wanderley today is that he cant take a punch the way he used to, and he leaves himself open everytime he throws a right hand.

Because having one the best fights ever against Chuck Liddell made him any less relevant People still love the Axe Murderer, hense why hes still main eventing UFC cards, its not like there giving him easy fights when they do so. People lose fights, when your facing the level of people that Wandy does, people understand.
