Following swift loss to Ray Mercer, Tim Sylvia now pulled from "Affliction: Trilogy" card

Following his embarrassing 10-second loss to 48-year-old former boxing heavyweight champion Ray Mercer at this past weekend's "Adrenaline MMA III: Bragging Rights" event, Tim Sylvia has been pulled from the Aug. 1 "Affliction: Trilogy" card.
The news comes from MMA FanHouse.
Sylvia, who lost to Mercer in an MMA bout after the Association of Boxing Commissions nixed plans for a boxing exhibition at the Mississippi event, had been slated to fight Paul Buentello in an Affliction pay-per-view main-card bout.
According to the report, Affliction Entertainment Vice President Tom Atencio solely made the decision and didn't bother to contact the California State Athletic Commission, which would have needed to approve the fight. "Affliction: Trilogy" takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
"It's his second knockout in a row, and I don't want to take a chance on anything," Atencio told FanHouse. "The fight is less than 60 days away."
(Video of the Sylvia-Mercer fight can be found below.)
According to the report, Atencio said Buentello could instead face the winner of a June 27 "Ultimate Chaos" fight between Affliction heavyweights Pedro Rizzo and Gilbert Yvel.
Being pulled from the Affliction card will likely cost Sylvia a solid payday. In his only other Affliction fight, he earned $800,000 in a main-event loss to Fedor Emelianenko at "Banned" in July 2008.
So yeah someone here did say that because he was knocked out he would be pulled.

Fedor: "Barnett is Dangerous" Tuesday, June 16, 2009 by Loretta Hunt (sherdog.com)
Even under his restrained façade, Fedor Emelianenko can’t hide the acknowledgment that one of his biggest career challenges lies directly ahead.
Emelianenko finally meets Josh Barnett in the main event at Affliction “Trilogy” on Aug. 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
The bout, which has been requested by fans since both fighters rose to divisional prominence in Pride Fighting Championships a couple of years ago, pairs Sherdog.com’s No. 1 and No. 2 world-ranked heavyweights against one another in a five-round contest. It will also be Emelianenko’s sixth test against a former UFC champion, and one he says he won’t take lightly.
"The thing about Josh is that even though he may not be as well technically in certain areas, he really makes up for it with his strengths and with his patience and with his abilities," Emelianenko told Sherdog.com News Editor Loretta Hunt in an exclusive video interview. "The fact is he’s definitely up there as one of the most dangerous fighters I’ve ever been in the ring with."
<!--PICTURE R-->In the wake of his commanding victories over Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski, the 32-year-old Emelianenko (30-1, 1 NC) discusses how his friendship with Barnett (24-5) will effect his course of action and what he saw in the American’s January win over Gilbert Yvel that will help mold his training for their August showdown.

Do you have a reason not to give The Half Boy your vote for the Hall of Fame?
I can't get used to MMA that's not in a cage to be honest. I watched the start of the second Affliction card and found it really weird. That said I downloaded Pride 33 recently due to many recommendations to do so here, and though I haven't watched it. I watched the start of the first fight just to check the quality... I liked it, so maybe it's the fact that the commentators for Affliction annoy me.
I'll be watching this at some point though. People keep harping on about Fedor and in all the YouTube vids I've watched I cannot for the life of me, see why.
