Saturday's regional Shark Fight event ended victoriously for some of the card's biggest names, including MMA pioneer Don Frye and "The Ultimate Fighter 7" cast member Jesse Taylor.
However, headliner and Texas native Rex Richards, an early favorite to appear on the upcoming 10th season of "TUF," suffered just the second loss of his career.
The event took place at the 7,000-seat City Bank Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas.
Scheduled as a five-rounder, the night's main event featured Richards, a former Texas Tech lineman who had a short stint with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, vs. undefeated Shark Fight champ Darill Schoonover.
Richards, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who recently cut nearly 100 pounds, was looking for success after a drop from super heavyweight to the heavyweight division. However, Schoonover continually dodged his submission attempts and ended the bout via TKO (due to strikes) in the fourth round.
Schoonover moves to 10-0 with the win. Richards falls to 6-2.
In other action, Taylor returned to competition still looking to rebuild him image after getting thrown off "TUF" (due to a drunken Las Vegas rampage) just days after winning a spot in the show's championship fight. Taylor got one official fight in the UFC, but he suffered a loss to C.B. Dollaway via submission.
Taylor, though, picked up his fifth consecutive win since the UFC loss by submitting co-main-event opponent Eric DaVila.
The former collegiate wrestler quickly took the fight to the ground and forced DaVila to tap out from a rear-naked choke early in the first round.
Taylor is now 5-0 with four stoppages since October. DaVila falls to 12-8 and snaps a three-fight win streak.
In the night's other featured bout, 43-year-old Don Frye wasted little time with Judoka Rich Moss. While fending off a takedown attempt from the Rage in the Cage veteran early in the first round, Frye transitioned into a rear-naked choke and forced the quick tap-out.
Frye, who picked up his fourth win in six fights, is now 20-7-1 over a 13-year career. Moss falls to 7-3.
The full results from Shark Fights 4 included:
•Darill Schoonover def. Rex Richards via TKO (strikes) - Round 4
•Jesse Taylor def. Eric DaVila via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 1
•Don Frye def. Rich Moss via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 1
•Phil Cardella def. Johnny Flores via submission (armbar) - Round 1
•T.J. Wallburter def. Shannon Ritch via submission (armbar) - Round 1
•Rolando Scott def. Zach Haney via TKO (strikes) - Round 1
•Douglas Frey def. Louis Luna via KO (punch) - Round 1
•Jessica Miramontes def. Brandi Hainey via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
•Josh Shephard def. Aaron Garcia via TKO (strikes) - Round 1
I couldn't care less about Rex Richards.
Jesse Taylor really needs to bought back now, I mean yeah he made mistakes, but 5 wins with 4 stoppages is very impressive and though his brain lacks, you can't deny his talent.
Don Frye is still cutting is at 43 years old which is nice to see.

Meh, besides Fickett, he isn't exactly racking up wins against UFC-caliber fighters. But beyond that, I don't know that he should be brought back. Yeah, he has some promise, but the UFC is hardly lacking in fighters that are promising. They would need to be damned sure he has learned his lesson and is going to act like a proper professional before they concider it. If they aren't sure, don't touch. Simple as.

Well no they aren't UFC caliber fighters and he is disposing of them in that way. He has had 5 fights now since he was released and there hasn't been any word of trouble.

If I was the UFC (and obviously I'm not), it wouldn't just be a lack of incidents that I would be looking for, but a genuine change in attitude. I would want to be convinced that he actually understands why what he did is unacceptable and believe he will not do anything similar in the future. Taylor is a good prospect, but its not like he's an unbelievable talent.
