Will UFC 97 be the end of the road for the Iceman?
Chuck Liddell has had a fantastic career that anyone would be proud of (he also has a very nice house to match according to Ross Pointon To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. My question is, if he loses to Shogun, do you see him announcing his retirement?

I hope not. I really see him winning this one, TKO midway thru the 2nd. But if he loses, I'd still like to see him with a Matt Hughes schedule...1-2 fights/yr. People will always pay to see him

Yeah.
Dana said he would be 'watching him closely' this fight.
If he loses, he's done.

One of the most storied careers in mixed martial arts has come to a close.
According to UFC President Dana White, longtime UFC fighter Chuck Liddell, who suffered a first-round TKO loss to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the co-main event of Saturday's UFC 97 event, is retired from fighting.
"He's a huge superstar, and we could still sell lots of tickets (with Liddell)," White said. "But I don't care about that. I care about him. I care about his health, and it's over, man. It's over."
The loss to Rua was Liddell's fourth in his past five fights and the third to come via knockout in that span. Although Liddell said he retooled his training camp, and though some of those new skills were on display on Saturday at Montreal's Bell Centre, Liddell still suffered the career-ending loss.
After a loss like that I'm not surprised.

I find it odd that White is the one delivering that news. I found it really interesting that after Liddell lost, Goldberg and Rogan mentioned "Liddell could be done" about 75 times. Like they were intentionally hammering home the point. But Liddell didn't seem so certain after he lost and was interviewed. Which makes me wonder if this is his decision or the UFC's.

Re: Will UFC 97 be the end of the road for the Iceman?
it's always sad to see a legend like liddel retire, but it would be the best choice if he now retires. it was like a emotional moment if he leaved the octagon after his fight and i think he and the fans realised that this was his last fight and gave him a big support on his way back. and in a way i don't want to see him fight as a 'jobber' just to earn that last buck.
Re: Will UFC 97 be the end of the road for the Iceman?
That is very true LVL.
If he stayed, wouldn't Dana just be using him to attract crowds? Win or lose, he would still be a big attraction, I just don't want to see him as a stepping stone for other fighters all of the time.
