While U.S. fans wonder if the Russian notable will ever fight on American soil, Aleksander Emelianenko (15-3) picked up his sixth consecutive win at a weekend "ProFC 5: Russia vs. Europe" event.
Emelianenko defeated Ibragim Magomedov via TKO stoppage (due to a cut) in the first round.
The fight, which took place at Russia's Palace of Sports, didn't come without some theatrics, though.
Magomedov (21-6-1), an M-1 and PRIDE veteran, wobbled Emelianenko early in the first round with a crushing right blow. However, the fight was halted after the referee noticed Magomedov suffered a deep cut during the frantic exchange.
After a quick check of the wound, the referee officially ended the bout and awarded Magomedov the loss -- his first in his past 10 fights.
A video of the fight is embedded above.
Emelianenko, the younger brother of WAMMA heavyweight champion and MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, had been signed to a contract with Affliction Entertainment and was expected to make his U.S. debut at the organization's debut show. But the California State Athletic Commission halted his July 2008 fight with Paul Buentello on the eve of the bout. Neither Emelianenko's camp nor the CSAC has given an official reason for the cancellation other than saying the fighter failed to meet licensing requirements.
Regardless, with his latest victory, Emelianenko should retain his ranking as one of the world's top 15 or 20 heavyweights.
First line of the article raises a good question.
Will he ever fight in the US?
I'm sure Dana White would gladly have him and if he doesn't want to fight for the UFC, why not fight for Affliction with his brother?

He has a lot of possibilities. I haven't seen much of him, so I don't know of what he can do. I'd like to see him vs fedor some day....it may be a bit gimmicky, but it would be fun to see.

I think he has trouble getting approved to fight in the U.S. for some reason.
I know he served time in prison in Russia, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Yeah what would be the difference if he is doing the exact same thing in Russia?
He is obviously getting clearance there.
Rules are not uniform between states, let alone nations. I don't know that fighters in Russia even have to pass any sort of formalized medical to fight. they do in Japan, but they are far more lax. Same as they don't care about steroid use in Japan. Hong Man Choi couldn't get cleared to fight in California due to his gigantism, whereas he's fought extensively in Japan.

Pretty sure its an issue with getting medical clearance. The rumor is Hepatitis. That's why he was pulled off the Affliction card.
I think that was just a rumor.

The Hep rumor or that he couldn't get medical clearance? Because he was definitely lined up for the Affliction show and then pulled late. Pretty sure the same happened previously, with Pride. Whatever the reason, something happened. The Emelianenko's play things pretty close to the vest - the rumor about Aleks having spent time in prison took years to get confirmed.

The Hep rumor. I heard some other fighter started it.
