March Badness: Bobby Lashley Unimpressive in Beating Jason Guida
The former WWE star Bobby Lashley defeated the MMA journeyman Jason Guida Saturday night at the March Badness MMA and boxing show in Florida, looking unimpressive in winning a unanimous decision.
The theme of the fight was that Lashley was bigger and stronger than Guida but unable to do any real damage to him. Lashley, who improved his record to 2-0, has a long, long way to go before he's a complete mixed martial artist.
Lashley shot for a takedown just seconds into the fight, but he couldn't do anything because Guida wrapped his arm around the top rope to keep from getting wrestled to the ground. Although Lashley landed a big right hand about a minute and a half into the round, the round was mostly uneventful, with Lashley and Guida basically leaning into each other in the corner. Midway through the first round, the crowd started booing the lack of action.
In the second round, Lashley picked Guida up and slammed him to the ground, and Lashley used his superior strength and size to spend most of the round on top of Guida. But he wasn't able to do much damage, and he appeared to run out of energy while Guida held him in half guard.
In the third Lashley again took Guida down, and Guida stunningly got Lashley in a guillotine that looked dangerous for a moment. But Lashley pulled his head free, and he held on until the clock ran out to pull off a rather dull decision win over Guida, whose career record falls to 17-20. Lashley said after the fight that he needs to go back to training. He's right about that.
Let us all discuss how horrible Bobby Lashley just looked.
He'd get killed in a real promotion. Side control for most of the match and yet all he was interested in was ground and pound. Standing up, his punches left him wide open. At least he doesnt sound like a little girl when he speaks anymore.
I don't mind him fighting scrubs for the time being because honestly that's what he is right now, a scrub. Let him slowly develop and just ignore him until he gets better, if this was anyone else we wouldn't care but since it's Lashley a big fuss is made, let him mature, fight in some small promotions and if he's ever good enough make it to the UFC and hopefully one day get a Lashely vs Lesnar showdown.
I only saw the final fight, which was Monson against Nelson. It looked like Nelson got the better of the fight throughout, but the decision was unanimous for Monson. Think Nelson may have got robbed.
Another bad decision by judges? Say it isn't so...
These days fighters keep saying that the judging is so bad that it is just extra motivation to not let it get into their hands and finish it before it does.
