I am still wondering why he has decided to move down to lightweight. I dont think that 155lbs is his natural weight class (I could be wrong) and it's not like he was getting dominated at welterweight. In his last 2 fights, he was real impressive in his victories over Luigi Fioravanti and David Bielkheden.
The UFC is always been high on him and I'm pretty sure they would have thrown a Title shot his way sooner or later.
Also, I think cutting all that weight will hurt him. People and all the bookmakers have Joe Stevenson as a huge underdog in this fight, at almost a 3 to 1 and I'm pretty sure Im taking that bet. Again, cutting all that weight can be too good for Nightmare Sanchez.
Anyway, maybe he moved down 'cause he didnt think he stood a chance against GSP or maybe 155 is his natural weight class...

Do you have a reason not to give The Half Boy your vote for the Hall of Fame?
Not sure exactly why he's moving down. Might be to test the waters or it might be a one-time deal. He should able to make the cut, and he'd be pretty huge at LW. He's a good size for WW, though not particularly big.
Sanchez hasn't seemed like quite the same fighter since the loss to Koscheck, and the injury slash staph infection afterward. The loss to Fitch was understandable, as he's one of the best in the weight class. The wins over Bielkheden and Fioravanti were solid but hardly that note-worthy. It seems like they were trying to build him back up again with expected wins... but then to throw him against Stevenson just seems a bit odd.
On paper, Sanchez should win this one. But moving down a weight class does complicate matters. It would be a big win for Stevenson, but only really another solid win for Sanchez. I'm really not sure on the logic behind the match-making beyond the fact that its putting together two guys with some name value.
I still dont get his move tho. I doubt the UFC asked him to move down. He is needed more in the WW division than in the Lightweight division.
Maybe the Welterweight division got too tough for him, but he was doing well. at 155, I doubt he'll do any better with Penn and Florian around.
The fight between Stevenson and Sanchez is a lose lose situation in my opinion. If Sanchez loses, where does he go from there? If Stevenson loses, that would make it 2 in a row and 3 out of 4...
I would have fed Sanchez someone like Wiman or Gamburyan.

I think B.J. Penn is going to be leaving sooner than later and the UFC is getting him invovled in that weight class now so that he can get some fights under his belt.

This is a little off topic, but does anyone remember the fight he had against Karo "Heat" Parysian? I just watched it on Spike and I thought Karo had actually won that fight, yet the judging was 29-28, 29-28, 30-26 for Sanchez...
30-26??????????????????????? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched the fight, I had it 29-28 Diego, but you have to remember that was during the time when Diego was being groomed towards UFC stardom, then the Kos fight came up, and then the Fitch fight.
