Negro Navarro/Dos Caras vs Black Terry/Shu El Guerrero, ??? 11/20/10

A rare treat seeing the legendary Dos Caras show up on tape. Opening fall has Navarro sqauring off with Shu and Terry wih Dos, and both are pretty good. Dos vs Terry is all about them trading blows, and I like Shu's defensive wrestling against Navarro, really trying to reel him from the kneeling stance. We don't get a full-blown Navarro/Terry battle but they get chippy and take cheapshots at each other. Middle part has the rudos working over Dos and baiting Navarro a lot. They do a lot of comedy spots, which seems kind out of place when you have guys hatin' on each other, but I thought it worked as far as Navarro embarrassing Terry. The comedy is nothing new, standard lucha comedy spots and the MX arm-wringer spot, but it's amusing and a nice change of pace, even if it made the match more "fun" than something great.

Also, I love the venue it took place at. Looks like they pretty much just set up a ring outside an industrial estate. Imagine seeing something like this in person. God bless Black Terry Jr for filming these random ass shows.

Interesting. What are your top Lucha matches of the year and can you link me to them. I like to stop hating mexicans and appreciate their fail wrestling.

Black Terry Jr uploaded a bunch of great shit from IWRG on a weekly basis for the first 4 months of the year. I can't be bothered to post them all in thsi thread, but they are all on his youtube channel if you can navigate your way there.

My favourite matches of the year would be:

There are probably 20-30 other matches on there that are awesome, but those are the best for me.

There hasnt been too many great matches coming out of AAA which is the only lucha company that I watch. But the Damian/Halloween vs Hermandad 187 match was good.

Super Colt/Negro Navarro/Cerebro Maligno vs Rocky Santana/Solar/Sadico, ??? 11/25/10

Pretty fun trios match. Navarro and Solar are career long-rivals who are married to each other, and their exchanges in this were all good if not mind-blowing. Counters that are not only complicated but lightning quick. The second fall is underwhelmingly short but the third fall makes up for it, as Super Colt takes a huge ringpost bump and Sadico hits a pretty crazy tope.

The Fight Network up here shows CMLL on Saturday mornings. Been watching it on and off for awhile. The shows are a bit older - a year or two for the most part - but I've been enjoying them. It doesn't quite have much running out to grab all the lucha I can, but I'm enjoying it more than I expected.

Solar/Black Shadow Jr. vs Negro Navarro/Black Terry, ??? 12/18/10

Shadow is another aged veteran, who I have never seen or heard of before, but fits in well with the usual maestros. Once again Solar and Navarro face off, leaving Terry to face Shadow. The Solar/Navarro mat-exchanges were great as usual, ridiculously quick at the start, and both guys bust out some crazy submission holds like Solar's head-scissors/chickenwing and Navarro's grounded horsecollar. The Terry/Shadow stuff is also good, with Shadow being surprisingly athletic for a guy as eldery-looking as himself. The crowd were also very vocal.

Comando Negro vs Pollo (Mask vs Mask), IWRG 12/26/10

Whoever decided to book a mask vs mask bloodbath involving a comedy wrestler dressed as a chicken the day after Christmas deserves a promotion. This was a tonne of fun. Pollo looked pretty green but did enough to hold up his end, and Comando held the rest together (and even beat up the midget sidekick). Awesome, awesome brawling with Comando just beating the shit out of the chicken to the point where the head was all ripped up and the outfit covered in blood with both guys wrecklessly throwing chairs at each other through the crowd. If this isn't pro wrestling, I don't know what is.

Navarro/Cerebro/Terry vs. Solar/Suicida/Zatura and Cererbo vs. Hijo del Diablo from early in the year are probably my two best matches of the year. I still need to watch a pile of the other lucha stuff but they're both great.
