Great pre-return Davey Richards matches?

The guy is an acceptable wrestler these days, but I and others felt he was pretty mediocre before his return last year, whilest others have sung his praises to no end. I honestly can't think of any great Davey Richards matches before his return. Thought his matches with Styles, KENTA, Jay, Super Dragon and the NRC were all pretty weak. So.... Davey fans step up. Sell me on what made him good.

I felt his Marafuji match at Final Battle 2007 was nearly great. That was the first ROH match of his that I saw him perform at the level that would get him so much respect this year. I wouldn't say he was great before that. Upon his arrive in ROH in 2006, I started liking him because of the style he had and for the fact that I thought he could only get better. His two 2006 Austin Aries matches (Dethorned and Glory By Honor V Night 1) backed that opinion up in my eyes.

I wouldn't call him a great wrestler before his NOAH tour, but there are quite a good number of matches I enjoyed from him:

w/Roderick Strong vs Shingo & Naruki Doi
w/No Remorse Corps vs Erick Stevens, Delirious & Matt Cross
vs Naomichi Marufuji
w/Rocky Romero vs Hangm3n vs AOTF vs Team Work
w/No Remorse Corps vs CIMA, Erick Stevens & Go Shiozaki
vs Kota Ibushi
w/No Remorse Corps vs Takeshi Morishima, Naomichi Marufuji & Go Shiozaki
w/Rocky Romero vs Kevin Steen & El Generico
w/Roderick Strong vs Team Work

Now, I know all the six-mans and other tags are a bit of an easy way out, so I highlighted the ones that I definitely remember featured strong performances from Davey.

As long as you're not talking about their Unified match. Despite loving Davey, that match bored me to tears.

Yeah, I actually really enjoyed his debut against Rave too, though Rave was tremendous in it.

I liked the tag with Roddy against the DG boys too, but it didn't blow me away. Still good, though.

There are a couple of NRC tags that I dug a lot like the one against Danielson/Stevens/Cross and the 8-man street fight (probably the best match Rocky, Davey and Cross have been in), but a lot of others I felt they were just filling time in the middle before going into the big end run with finishers.

I'll have to watch the Marufuji match some time.

Personally I really enjoyed his match against Homicide from FYF: Liverpool. He actually showed some personality which was a huge change of pace for him back then. Eh, I'm not much of a Richards fanboy so I can't think of many matches that really stood out to me.

I have been a HUGE Davey Richards fan and I think he has had a shitload of great matches prior to his late 2008-2009 awesomeness. I loved his match against KENTA, Shiozaki in WxW, Kota, Roderick down in FIP, his NRC stuff was pretty 50/50(Guy had a personality as well as TREMENDOUS chemistry with Strong & Romero but his personality in the group seems like nothing to how badass he is now), Low-ki(In IWA-MS), and allot of his tag with Dragon. I say Super Dragon was probably a big influence on his big interaction on his huge crowd getting heat abillity. I say his best match though before 2008-2009 awesomeness has to be that INCREDIBLE tag match vs the Briscoes with Sydal. Gave that shit ****3/4

The Low Ki match is the TPI '06 match? That's pretty fun, but I usually dig Ki kicking people to death.

I think I've seen the Briscoes tag around... what was so good about it?
