Once more KENTA will make the long voyage from Japan to the United States to compete inside the Ring of Honor ring for the five dates scheduled in the month of November. There is a long list of competitors here in ROH who are either eager to prove themselves against the GHC Jr. Heavyweight champion or they’re looking for a rematch. It is one of the latter who stepped up after “Survival of the Fittest 2009” looking for another opportunity to challenge one of the world’s hardest hitters.
“The last time we fought I was far from one hundred percent,” said Tyler Black. “It’s not any excuse for my loss; but I was coming out of a brutal cage match the night before I wrestled KENTA. But that’s on me, I accepted the match knowing full well what I was getting into. I wasn’t going to turn down the chance to fight KENTA because I didn’t know when I would get the chance again. Now that chance has come again and this time I’m healed, near a hundred percent, and I’m excited to have one more chance to test myself against one of the best wrestlers in the world!”
As soon as ROH officials returned from the Collinsville/Indianapolis tour, they began working with representatives from Pro Wrestling NOAH and we are happy to announce that on Thursday night November 5th, as part of the next set of “ROH on HDNet” TV Tapings, it will be KENTA vs. Black II! The last time these two met at “End Of An Age” in Chicago, KENTA was able to get the better of Tyler, but Black is hot off his victories over Chris Hero and his triumph in the Survival of the Fittest tournament, and clearly has his sights set squarely on the ROH World Title and Austin Aries. KENTA will be facing a man refreshed, refocused, and rejuvenated rather than someone coming off both a cage match and a devastating World Title loss. The Japanese legend has stated through interpreters that “Black has impressed him more than any other ROH competitor as of late”, and “he knows he will certainly be in for a long night on November 5th.”
While a victory over KENTA would only add to Black’s momentum as he marches onward towards getting revenge on Aries, there is another man making noise in Black’s direction after a loss in Indianapolis: Kenny King. As seen in a recent ROH Newswire, King is looking to get a rematch with Black in Edison, NJ, and while ROH officials continue to work on terms for that bout, they have come to a conclusion regarding Friday night November 6th. It will be Kenny King & Austin Aries facing off with Tyler Black and the partner of his choosing, KENTA!
“It may seem like an odd selection given that KENTA and I will beat each other senseless the night before,” said Black. “But when ROH asked me who I wanted for a partner, I couldn’t think of a better man. We did good for ourselves as a team back at “Take No Prisoners 2009”, and I’m pretty confident that KENTA and I can have that same success in Philly. It will just be a sneak preview of what’s waiting for Aries as soon as I get him in the ring by himself!”
With two of his matches officially signed, it will be very interesting to see how the rest of KENTA’s November tour plays out. There are a great number of wrestlers chomping at the bit to get in the ring with KENTA and Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling NOAH officials are currently looking over the prospects and will come to a determination over the next few days. For the final night of November’s triple-shot weekend in New Jersey, ROH officials were once again given multiple requests from various members of the locker room to face KENTA. They are all looking for the taste of glory that would come with a victory over the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion, but one name stood out the most, especially after his performance during Survival of the Fittest: that man is Roderick Strong.
The parallels between these two men are many. Both are hard-hitting, extremely aggressive wrestlers who have fought their way up through the ranks of their respective companies but have been unable to capture their companies’ top title. They have gone toe-to-toe on several occasions in the past (“Throwdown” & the 5/29 “ROH on HDNet” tapings), have been partners (“Violent Tendencies” & the 8/14/09 “ROH on HDNet” tapings), and now will step into the ring one more time.
On November 7th, it will be KENTA vs. Roderick Strong as part of the event in Edison, NJ. In the past these two have chopped the flesh off of one another, kicked one another’s heads in, and generally left everything they had in the center of the ring. KENTA has always come out on top in their singles matches, but coming out of “Survival of the Fittest 2009”, Strong has the support of the ROH faithful at a level like he’s never had before. And despite the fact that he came up questionably short in the finals of the tournament, Strong certainly reestablished himself as part of the upper echelon in Ring of Honor. No pun intended, but a strong showing against KENTA can only push Strong that much closer towards another shot at the ever elusive ROH World Title. “It’s an easy decision,” said Strong. “KENTA is one of the best in the world, and fighting him can ONLY make me better. It isn’t even really about wins and losses when you face a man of his standing, it’s about what you take away from the match, what you learn. 2009 has been awesome for me in a lot of ways, and I think that my time in the ring with KENTA has had a lot to do with that. I look forward to doing it again.”

I think Strong could have possibly the best match in his ROH career if they allow it. As discussed before, hes a hit or miss guy.

I'm pretty much the same here when I say I'm over Black. Just another case of them hyping someone over the edge and not doing anything (Strong in 05, Delirious in 06, Claudio in 07).

I can see Tyler going over KENTA this time, which I can't say will help ROH when it comes to fans thinking he's being shoved down our throats. Roderick should be going over when he faces him, everyone's high on him right now.

Well, knowing the way things are right now with Tyler, and how Pearce handles pushes and issues like this, they may go two ways with Strong: live up on the reaction and put him over KENTA, or completely piss off everyone and kill Strong's heat

Losing to KENTA will never kill someone's heat, if you ask me. I mean, who has actually beaten KENTA in a singles match in ROH? Off the top of my head, I can only think of Dragon and Nigel.
But I see what you mean. If I had my way, the first person to go over KENTA in this new era would be between Roderick, Davey and Hero.

KENTA/Strong III? Where were their other two matches? I know they had one on HDNet a couple months back but when did the other happen?
Anyways, Strong/KENTA, I'm really looking forward too. I have yet to see the first Black/KENTA match but that could be good. Strong really needs to go over KENTA and get pushed towards the world title dammit. I'd rather them put the belt on Strong than Black.

Their first match was a few years ago back in KENTA's first ROH run. Haven't heard whether it's good or not, but probably worth checking out.
