So, I've been chatting with Marketh, and we were discussing his ROH preference, and my CHIKARA preference, so I'm curious; which company do you prefer? What is it that makes you lean towards one and sway away from the other? Hopefully we'll get some good debating in here.
I'll bring up more of my points as we get the ball rolling, but I think it's quite clear I prefer Chikara. Overall I just find it to be more enjoyable. I've been enjoying their wrestling more(although to be fair, I haven't seen much ROH this year), and I enjoy the fully-imersive fan experience, if you will. Also, Chikara doesn't have the Briscoes To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I'll give you that advantage about The Briscoes, though to be fair, they'd be more tolerable if they weren't constantly on top. >_>
I'll give CHIKARA credit where it's due: it's enjoyable. After seeing a good amount of it, I can see it's appeal, but some of their more acclaimed matches - the ones reviewers and fans are always saying is MOTY and that - are just spotfests to me. I'll even namedrop some off the top of my head:
The DGUSA tag.
The 8-man at Aniversario Yang.
The Golden Trios Tag at YLC7.
Ibushi/Generico/Jackson/Jigsaw.
A lot of what I see in these matches is just constant spots, some times with no structure or any formula to them, with no real story being told, plus some of the lucha stuff looks so contrived I just can't buy into it. The more experienced guys like Quack or Claudio don't have that problem, but I can see guys literally picking each other up for hurricanranas and that.
I'll get to ROH when the ball's rolling like you said, I just didn't want to leave myself with one massive post and nothing to say later.

While I haven't seen an immense amount of CHIKARA, I've seen enough to make a judgment. I'm going to say CHIKARA for the mere reasons that it's just overall more fun you could say. Now I'm not saying I want Ring of Honor to do what they, there just seems to be a better vibe at the events I've seen. The CHIKARA fans don't really care about getting themselves over, as most are silent and watch what's going on. You get that with ROH as well - but there's a much better chance of getting an asshole or two in the crowd trying to be funny. That kills it for me.
Another thing I enjoy about CHIKARA is the in ring work. It's different from what I'm use to watching. I know the debate will be brought up about the matches being spotfest - DGUSA tag or Golden Trios. But, I don't think the Golden Trios was meant to have a epic story - it was just suppose to be fun. Which it was. Matches like Hero/Equinox and Gerard/Equinox(Ladder) I feel are of better quality than Lynn/Black or Aries/Lynn/Black. Those matches weren't bad, but it just felt like "Uh huh" to me. I never really was invested in them.
But I will admit I did enjoy Hero/Storm. The atmosphere of CHIKARA is just so much sweeter in my mind.

There are some things that I really like about CHIKARA but I don't really look to them if I want to see a really great match. Most of the matches recommended to me have been disappointing or else really spotty. That said, I don't really like ROH anymore either, but since it has guys like Hero and Richards I'd definitely go to their promotion if I wanted to see some great wrestling.
