Yeah, the 2007 one but besides Steen I can't see anyone I'd like to see win and get pushed.

Re: ROH "Survival Of The Fittest 2009" - Card & Results Thread

Having Hero win would really show what a failure the past couple of years has been. Having back-to-back SOTF wins just shows that the company was unable to push him right the first time. With the title shots he's gotten in the past and the Storm matches, I really don't feel he needs the win.

In all honesty, what's the point in having the bigger stars win? Kevin Steen, Chris Hero, Roderick Strong, Claudio Castagnoli, Tyler Black and hell even Colt Cabana has had numerous title shots in the past. Look at the past SOTF's:

Bryan Danielson (2004) - Zero title shots at the time
Roderick Strong (2005) - One title shot at the time
Delirious (2006) - Two title shots at the time
Chris Hero (2007) - Two title shots at the time (Unless you count the Joe shot in another company)

SOTF is the perfect chance to take a midcarder and help boost them into the main event scene. To me, it would only make sense to do it with someone who's not already there.

I'd love to see them try to push Stevens again, but I think they'd fail at it again.

I don't see anything wrong with someone like Steen winning. He's had title shots before, but he is still pretty much a midcarder.

I would be happy with Omega winning and getting his first title shot though. He'd be a better winner than any of the others gunning for Aries right now like Colt, Roderick and Petey.

BREAKING NEWS
Monday, October 05, 2009

The following excerpt was part of the Ring of Honor Newswire on October 2nd:

“Davey Richards feels for his brother in the American Wolves. He dreads the thought of Eddie Edwards missing any time in their hunt. But Richards knows that every wolf at one time or another hunts alone, and even though he’s a capable warrior, the prospect of fighting off the Briscoes, Young Bucks, or Steen and Generico by himself is a bleak one. Richards also holds a shot at the ROH World Title in his grasp by virtue of winning the inaugural Toronto Gauntlet during “Death Before Dishonor” weekend. To that end, we have it on good authority that a private meeting between Davey Richards and Austin Aries took place earlier this week. ROH officials hope to have word on what took place at that meeting next week in the wire.”

ROH officials can now confirm that ROH World Champion Austin Aries and ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards met at an undisclosed location in the last 12 hours and have apparently made an agreement to wrestle with, not against, each other this Saturday night in Indianapolis.

Sources indicated to ROHWrestling.com that before the injury suffered by Eddie Edwards in Boston last month, ROH officials were preparing to finalize a Briscoe Brothers/American Wolves tag team bout for Indianapolis on October 10th. Since the injury to Edwards has rendered him unable to compete, our sources then indicated that Richards was instead preparing to force officials into signing the ROH World Championship match he earned by winning the Toronto Gauntlet on July 25th.

Aries, reportedly in no hurry to face the red hot Richards, caught wind of Davey’s imminent move and launched a pre-emptive strike of his own by calling the meeting with Richards. It is believed that Aries intended to talk Richards out of asking for the title contest, citing that Richards “needs more friends now than enemies” with Eddie Edwards sidelined. It is believed that Aries offered to team with Richards in exchange for Davey not calling for his title shot this weekend. It is speculated that Richards took a couple of days to ponder the offer before reconvening with Aries sometime in the last 12 hours, accepting his proposal for Indianapolis. It is believed that the uncertainty of the Wolves World Tag Team title reign, coupled with the list of teams with a personal vendetta against the Wolves, has prompted Richards to strike this deal with Aries.

ROH officials received signed contracts this afternoon, and the match is official. On October 10th in Indianapolis, ROH World Champion Austin Aries will team with ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards to face Mark and Jay – The Briscoe Brothers.

ROH Executive Producer Jim Cornette has confirmed that Davey Richards will still hold an ROH World Championship match at his discretion. Cornette went on to say, “Aries doesn’t want any part of Richards in that ring, and I don’t blame him. But I’ll say this about A Double – he’s an absolute master politician – and I’m an expert at that.” Jay Briscoe, upon hearing the news, stated, “We don’t care what Richards does. Revenge is coming for him, son. And if he’s okay with teaming with Aries, then it proves Davey’s scared. If you’re scared, say you’re scared, boy. We don’t care who his partner is. He’s got to man up either way.”
Now it's a good-looking card. I like how this isn't a seemingly thrown-together match, the explanation made sense. Also glad that Davey isn't winning SOTF and it's interesting that there's no big singles match between main event level guys. Good opportunity for the guys in the qualifiers.

Black used 4 superkicks to finally keep Roddy down and win SoTF 2009 and a future World Title shot.

Black cuts a promo that the future is now & it is time for his revolution to begin - Roddy tells him that he wants a re-match.
So I guess the race is on between Black and Richards.

Re: ROH "Survival Of The Fittest 2009" - Card & Results Thread

For fuck's sake. Everyone already knows Tyler is a likely candidate for champ and he's in a main event position already. I don't see how this at all benefits him and this could've been used for someone like Steen or even Roderick.

Davey getting pinned two nights in a row and Tyler winning two nights in a row doesn't really sound like much is going to change.
