All indications are that Ring of Honor is some serious trouble right now. Losing two of the biggest stars is a huge hit, but there are indications of financial trouble due to the loss of PPVs and the drop in DVD sales. My question is where fans think they went wrong.
It seems like few are real fans of Adam Pearce as booker. I've read a few people indicate that removing Gabe Sapolsky was still a necessary move. Was it firing Sapolsky where things went off track - would things be "better" with him still running ROH? Or was that the right move, but giving the book to Pearce where it went wrong?

I personally lost interest when TNA removed their talent from appearing in ROH. I haven't watched a ROH show since around Final Battle 2005 i believe when Homicide won the strap from Danielson.
Always thought Gabe was a good booker. I don't know how Pearce is as a booker as i haven't watched their shows with him in charge.
ROH needs to go back to being the product they where in 2003-2006... that was some fun stuff.

That was FB 2006.
Umm, I don't think ROH went wrong with the Sapolosky firing. ROH was pretty damn dull at the end of Gabe's run. That said, I think he could have turned things around and hammered out a better product than Pearce. I'm not sure if it's one thing, but a culmination of different things. I mentioned some of those things in To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

While ROH was also having problems while Gabe was still there, he still put out a much better product than Pearce in ROH ever has. Some people say it was dull but I thought it was still pretty alright. Marufuji would have won the belt at Final Battle and would have had a great reign probably with some damn fine defenses.
I think it did go wrong when Gabe was fired and Pearce was brought in. Not financially mind you, but booking wise, it went downhill and went wrong. I mean, I highly doubt that Gabe would have put the belt on Lynn and put the belt on Aries for the second time. I think Gabe would have kept the charm of nobody holding the belt twice for as long as he could go. Putting the belt on as many people as he could that haven't held it before, then after all that, resorting to a two time champion.
Like I said, they were still having some financial problems when Gabe was there, but booking in my opinion, just went way downhill when Pearce was brought in.

While I do think that Gabe needed time off to refresh himself and his ideas, the problem still lies there. When a move is necessary or not, it comes down to how people feel about the person. Gabe was beloved, so removing him turned a lot of fans off. It's somewhat like a trade in sports. You trade away a very popular player for some new players that while end up helping you more, the fans only care about their star that they loved leaving. It's something that has hurt companies in the past.
I believe someone mentioned it earlier, but if there was one problem ROH had was growing too fast. It killed JCP and it killed ECW. Going to Japan, the PPV and the TV show may seem like great things, but so did the TNN show at the time for ECW. There were just too many changes to ROH in a short amount of time. Add in that the growth of shows per year, not every show is a must have anymore. Especially once the economy became horrible, people didn't have the same amount of money they once had to spend. Less money and not as interesting of shows is a major negative point for any company.
ROH isn't done yet, but they may need to make some drastic changes that could threaten their spot as the number 3 company in the US.
