At another board I venture we did a project to find the best puro matches of 2000. It involved a good few months of watching, voting, discussing and finally sending in ballots. Overall it was a fun project to participate in. I am posting these here and at a few other boards in hope that it will encourage people to check out a few matches because there are some genuine classics here.

In total, 83 matches were nominated. Whilest I had naturally disagreed with a few placements, it's still a really great representation of the year and it's best matches. Kawada was undoubtably the best worker in the world in 2000, and Kobashi, Akiyama and Vader all had great years too. I would say the top five atleast are all must-see.
So... yeah. Even if posting this encourages just one person to seek out a match, that would be good.
Is this the list from Death Valley? It was an all right year for puro, but definitely nothing like the preceding years (or some of the years that would follow). Akiyama was really coming into his own at this point in time, so I'm glad to see that he got a nice showing in this poll. I've always been a fan of Kawada, but, unfortunately, I don't think any matches of his in 2000 were as significant as his being the only major holdout during the NOAH exodus. But, it's a good list.
Kawada's matches were pretty significant in terms of keeping All Japan afloat after the split. They did pretty big business for both AJ and NJ. From an in-ring perspective, he had an incredible year. Easily the best match of Sasaki's career and it was because Kawada held his hand through it, and the tag which is #1 (which I didn't think was that good... only my #4) is the best thing Nagata and Iizuka have done and the best Fuchi match since the early '90s.
I agree Akiyama was fucking great that year too. Both his singles with Kobashi were great and I had the Misawa match as my #1.
Pretty good list. Out of that list I think I've only seen like five or six of those matches. Going to have to check out some of the other ones! Cool post!
