- WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair was scheduled to be the outside ring enforcer for last night's Ring of Honor Title match at the company's show in New York City. Flair appeared for a pre-show autograph session and later cut a promo in the ring putting over Ring of Honor and doing the usual Ric Flair promo stuff.
As soon as the promo was over, Flair went to the back and packed his bags before leaving the arena in a rental car. Flair's departure caught ROH officials off guard because as of yesterday afternoon, Flair had no issue with what was planned. Several Ring of Honor officials including booker Adam Pearce came out of the arena trying to catch Flair but they were too late.
Backstage during the event, Flair was given several spots to do in the title match but he responded that he was only there to do his promo and sign the autographs. Flair also turned down the scheduled appearance because HDNet had cameras on hand and he did not want to appear on ROH TV. Flair has three more scheduled ROH appearances next month so it will be interesting to see if he keeps them now.
What a fucking asshole. He's getting paid shitloads of money and he doesn't even have the decency to finish off what he was booked to do, then just leaves in the middle of the fucking show. I have lost a ton of respect for him now.
This man has been shitting on ROH for a couple months now, disguising it in unmeaningful promos praising them and not bothering to learn anyone's names. This is just confirmation of what a prick he is.
He's always pretty much been an asshole. He's an egomanaic who thinks due to his past of having great matches (A good two decades ago) everyone should bow down to him. He's never thought about anyone other than himself. Whether it was taking the WCW title to the WWE (I don't care if you're having a problem with the office, doing that hurts everyone in a company), getting all pissy because Hogan was booked as the top guy from 1994 on, to now this.
If it was one thing Russo did well it was breaking the spirit of Flair. At least then Flair wasn't such a prick who only thought about himself. If only McMahon wasn't there to pick up the pieces.
And when there is no hope,
"I'll smoke some crack, I'll shoot some dope!"
When theres no enemies,
"I sit and stare at my T.V.
and in my ignorance,
I'll be a slave and sycophant!"
Why can't he just go away? It's not that I don't respect all that he's done for pro-wrestling and what not, but damn. He has an ego the size of Texas. He thinks he's the pro-wrestling God, when he's not.
A small correction from the Flair article I posted a few hours ago. ROH was aware that Flair would be leaving the Arena after his promo as he had made it clear to ROH owner Cary Silkin and wouldn't waver from that decision. Flair did not just up and leave without the knowledge of everyone in ROH, although there were some in the company who were caught by surprise when he left.
Pretty much every ROH performer I spoke to last night and this morning were unanimous in praising Cary Silkin for how he handled the situation. All of the blame was being placed on Flair for not living up to his agreement with Silkin by pulling out on his end on Saturday (after being paid in advance by the company). A number of workers felt that ROH and Silkin treated Flair with respect and then Flair turned around and disrespected Silkin in return by how he handled the situation.
Based on how Flair handled the deal, I'd expect him back on Raw tomorrow.
It's better, but it's still pretty fucking terrible and I'm still pissed that he would treat the promotion with such disrespect.
