His contract is an open contract and he can work outside of the WWE. By the sounds of reports it sounds as if he was paranoid that working for ROH would upset Vince so decided to fuck them over rather than risking that... as if the WWE would drop him for it.
As I read it, it wasn't even an open contract, but a verbal agreement to work certain WWE shows. He was allowed to take booking elsewhere if he desired, which is what he was begging for last year before he left the 'E because they wouldn't allow him to work small indy shows and do non-WWE related signing sessions. Talk about getting what you want and pissing all over it.

Thought I might as well mention it in here for those who didn't see Steve mention it in the Random Indy thread. According to WO, Flair reimbursed ROH with $41,000 which was a noble thing to do and makes up quite a bit for what he did. Doesn't change the fact that he walked out of his scheduled main event appearance and generally treated the promotion and its' wrestlers disrespectfully, but at least he made up for it on the business side of things.

I disagree with LS Fan 86, Flair had great matches with Savage during the 90s. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair is a Hall of Famer, a legend in this sport and someone whose character intertwined so much with the actual person that it was a negative thing. Hogan, had a similar deal, but the Hulk Hogan character helped make him a better person (while in the ring for the most part, except when he pushed Savage into James Buster Douglas).

Which was 1992 (The WCW matches weren't nearly as good), 17 years ago. Wow...you really got me there. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

That certainly does make up for his behaviour somewhat, but he's still a douche for acting so above something that was there to help pay he bills at the end of the day. If people want to argue that Flair headlined sell out stadium shows in the 80's and arenas in the 90's, and is a living legend, then so be it. My take on it is that giving back is something a wrestler should not only do, but enjoy doing. Flair stopped being relevent a long time ago and should be thankful for the opportunity to be useful in the growth of up and coming talent.

I did laugh at his choice of wording. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

He did another insincere promo on HDNet this week, thanking them for the opportunity and bla bla. To cap it all off, he STILL hasn't learned that it's Ring of Honor, not THE Ring of Honor.
At first it seemed like a very small issue that someone could've pointed out to him if he said it a second time, but it's terrible that he couldn't even say the promotion's name correctly.

Ric Flair is scheduled for the first of his final three ROH appearances, doing a promo and signing autographs at Friday's ROH event in Detroit, Michigan.
In regard to reports making the rounds, ROH has yet to be reimbursed for advance payments made to Flair for his role as ROH Ambassador on the HDNet series, which Flair pulled out of six weeks ago.

REPRESENTATIVES FOR RIC FLAIR STATE HE IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO WWE, FLAIR STILL SEEKING BOOKINGS FOR APPEARANCES
by Mike Johnson @ 2009-06-23 23:25:23
The Gillespie Agency, which handles Ric Flair's personal appearances, issued the following statement on Tuesday evening:
We’ve had several inquiries since Ric Flair began to appear frequently on RAW again as to whether or not Ric is still available for appearances outside of WWE, so here’s a statement from The Man himself: “I will always be a part of the WWE family, however I am still anxious to get out there and meet my fans in person. I have had a great time doing just that since my retirement! My agent is currently negotiating appearances across the US and several abroad that will allow me to meet my fans around the world. I am very excited about these new opportunities! WooooOOOooo!”
Elaine Gillespie, who heads the Agency, commented that in regard to reports that Flair is again exclusive to World Wrestling Entertainment, "That’s just not the case. We feel it’s time to stop the rumors."

Love how he's still doing more dates, even though he fucked up the ROH deal.
