A Wrestling Legend Makes His ROH Debut

Ring of Honor Wrestling is very happy to announce that a Hall of Fame wrestling legend will be in attendance on Friday night, July 24th when ROH returns to the Ted Reeve Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The legendary Bret “Hitman” Hart will be on-hand for a special autograph signing prior to the ROH event, as well as making an appearance during the course of the night’s show. The addition of this multi-time World Champion adds to an already special weekend where ROH presents back-to-back events from the Ted Reeve Arena with Bret “Hitman” Hart appearing on Friday night July 24th and “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair in attendance on Saturday night July 25th! More details will be available in the coming weeks right here at ROHWrestling.com.
This is huge news. Hopefully he actually does something unlike what Flair appears to be doing on the shows. I don't know their financial position, but it does seem like Cary's going in a spend money to make money approach.

Hate to once again be the voice of negativity but I honestly doubt he'll draw any more than Flair does and costs near enough the same price. It'll be cool to see it, but he'll probably just off as fake as Flair did, I can't recall Bret ever mentioning anything about the US indy scene, or anything outside of the WWE before, and I doubt he'll add anything to the show. Hopefully it is a one-off, therefore it will feel a lot more special.
ROH must be bleeding money...

I'm such a total mark for Bret, I grew up on the guy. This was a sort of dream and I never saw it happening, and even though Cary is being an idiot with all this spending, this is pretty damn awesome. Can't wait to see what he has to say and everything.

It does sound like a pretty bad business move, but now it depends on how they handle it. If Bret can successfully come across as if he's actually a fan of the product (maybe send him a couple free DVDs just to arouse his interest), then Pearce books him in an exciting segment with him interacting with a couple roster members. That could lead to a match with Bret supporting a fellow Canadian like Steen, preventing interference from whoever's associated with the heel then Steen going over. I think that could turn out to be a pretty successful appearance.

I really don't see this being a bad move at all. Bret flat out has only made a few appearances at shows since 2000. Unlike Flair, you can't see Hart a lot. And also unlike Flair, this is an one time deal which will only make it feel more important. Having Bret there will be a major enticer for Canadian fans to go to the show and even bigger one to actually fork over some money to buy the DVD. Even though I'm not really into buying any recent ROH shows, having Bret on one makes it a lot more worthwhile.
