Well, I was going to put individual guys, including Roderick, in the Miscellaneous but since you're being so picky, maybe he wasn't so good after all. In fact I'll put him in The Ugly. Twice.
WELCOME BACK.

Roderick Strong - Very consistent in his performances. The first half of the year was incredible for him with the Stevens feud being the best parts of shows. As a heel, his lack of charisma didn't get exposed too much, since all he needed to do was try to kill Stevens. The matches they had were some of the best of the year, with the Fight Without Honor definitely being a MOTYC. Once that was over, it was onto the face turn which was quite a test for him. Initially he managed to keep the intensity he had as a heel in his matches, but when the Sweet 'n' Sour Inc. feud really got big, it seemed he just got lost among the large group of people involved. Albright was the clear leader of the team, because he was a better talker than him and Stevens, so Roderick basically tagged with both of them (with a noticeable lack of tension between him and Stevens, I might add, which didn't exactly help this feud) lots of times, without much story other than Sweeney getting his faction cheap wins. Nonetheless, the best matches were usually the ones with Roderick involved. The guy is able to put on a good match with just about everyone on the roster and I don't remember him having any particularly bad matches.
El Generico - Another man who also had a lot of good matches and was also a huge part of 2008. The guy was mostly doing big things for the tag division but he had his share of great singles matches, such as the one with Ibushi and his first match with Nigel. He also consistently got reactions during his matches, because he is such a charismatic character and very over. It was rare to find a match with him in it that had a quiet crowd. He may seem like a comedy wrestler, but I find it extremely easy to take him seriously. Although, I don't think I'd go as far as to say he'd be a great champion just yet...
Jerry Lynn - He became a regular late in the year, but I have to acknowledge what he did good during that time. He put on some good matches before I thought the whole veteran-proving-he's-still-got-it thing got shoved down my throat. Two great matches with Nigel showed he indeed is still able to put on a great match with a good worker. I wouldn't call him great right now, but I do think he's capable in the upper-midcard level. He also had some good matches with the likes of Chris Hero and Davey Richards, putting the young guys over.

It's nice and all hearing good things, but reviews over bad things are much more enjoyable. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I don't care at all what anyone thinks but Albright being the leader of he group was complete B.S. Guy couldn't have any kind of a good match with anyone instead of Pearce and when it came down to cutting it in the ring, he never stood out at all. Roderick and Davey were always the guys making the match work 100% of the time. SnS feud sucked balls in my opinion since Roderick NEVER got his win back against Hero in 1-on-1, beat Edwards back, give any damn tension towards Stevens, and there was never a third match against Richards to prove who was really the best in the NRC. Stevens didn't even seem to care that Go took the title away from him nd no all out war ever happened between the two. Instead all we got was Albright being Mr. Gawd and beating everyone in SnS with no problem at all & getting his win back against Pearce which I never saw the reason why for.
The SnS street fight should of seen a very dramatic final ending between Go and Stevens while the Steel Cage match should of seen Strong & Hero come to a conclusion instead of having just two people(The American Wolves) on the villains side of the team that actually mattered. I don't think Toland should of been brought in and Pearce's involvement was unnecessary. Was Toland even around when the NRC broke up? Meh
I also just want to throw out there that Roderick actually CAN cut one good ass heel promo. His promo at Dangerous Intentions 2008 was one of the best parts of that show and one of the best I have seen in that promotion despite him saying FIP world heavyweight title. If anyone can find it or upload it, please do.

I agree Tank Toland had no business in the match at all. Thought Pearce was sort of fitting, though I would have rather seen Go or Hero in the match.
My main problem with the SnS fued was just how repetitive it all was. It seemed like every show it was just Hero winning with he loaded elbow. Which was fine at first as building the gimmick up but when it got to four months or so and no real payoff in sight it became tedious.

There were definitely a lot of flaws in that feud. Only a few good matches came out of it and the only guys to really benefit from it were probably Albright and the American Wolves. If I were booking I would definitely be having Roderick and Hero feuding right now, trying to KO each other and if Davey wins the belt, a blowoff short series of matches between him and Roderick.
There was just a lot of lazy booking, it seemed, in the Team Big Guy vs SnS Inc. feud. Constant tag matches without much focus on the individual rivalries. I agree with Capone, what the fuck ever happened between Stevens and Go? There was tension for like one match between Roderick and Stevens. Hero and Roderick barely did anything together apart from their two matches.

The Typical ROH Brawl - What do you get when you mix plastic chairs, crowd brawling, Age of the Fall, a stipulation, sometimes no stipulations, staggering about the place, darkness and shakey cameras? Why, the Typical ROH Brawl, of course? Quantity definitely took place of quality last year in terms of brawling. We had some great hardcore matches like Aries/Jimmy, Dragon/Morishima and Steen/Necro, but for those few, every show besides those had some bad attempts at brawling. I mean seriously, how long could I stand to watch my least favourite wrestler on the ROH roster Necro throw weak as fuck punches and take sick bumps as a way of making up for how bad these matches were? Sure, these will get the live crowds hot, but for me watching these DVDs, it is VERY repetitive. There's a huge lack of storytelling and even selling in these matches. I can't count how many times someone's been hit from behind and probably no-sold it because they thought a fan was patting them on the back. There was probably only ONE good match the whole year in this style and it was the Briscoes/Vulture Squad vs AOTF match and that was the second show of 2008. Even that had at least a bit of story, with the underdog Vultures getting revenge for being jumped earlier in the night by AOTF. Simply put: this concept got too old way too fast.
