This is a discussion on Edge within the Graphics forums, part of the Non Wrestling Forums category; I did this within the first 10 days that I got Photoshop so it's not the best...

Man, I remember a year or so ago EVERYONE used that font.
Anyways, a fair decent effort with one of your first attempts. Much better than mine. Just keep trying stuff, learning new techniques, download more fonts, yada yada.
It was probably more like two years ago that Scriptina was popular.
Try not to use so many renders, it gives it a very cluttered look, you are better off using only one or two.
Try reading a few tuts on how use brushing, colouring and other different effects.
A good try considering you made this within your first 10 days, however, lay off the filters. The piece looks pretty cluttered, you've used way too many cuts, and haven't blended them either. The font doesn't suit the piece, but it's an overall good attempt. I can suggest some things though;
- Try using borders (stroke effect, ect)
- Textures (Try Deviant art)
- Stick to one, two, three at the most, main cuts
- Black = Boring - always try another color for your font
- Brushes; download some, they often help w/ the background
- Stock Photos; usually good for backgrounds
- Look at other peoples work, get some inspiration and imitate their styles
As i said, it's okay considering it was your first piece, just try some tutorials. Always start with the basics, and move on up, otherwise it gets too complicated.
