Here on WS we have had several wrestler vs. wrestler debates. We've had Flair vs. Hogan, Bret vs. Michaels, Austin vs. Hogan but we haven't really (providing my memory isn't failing me) had a true Austin or Rock discussion.
So, members of Wrestling Society, I ask you, who do you feel is better, Stone Cold Steve Austin, or The Rock? In which ways is he better? How close do you consider it? etc.
Although this is upon quick thought, I'm going to go with Stone Cold. As great as the Rock was (in such a short time too) I feel as though Austin has had more great matches with a wider variety of opponents. However I plan on watching some of their stuff tonight so it could change, though I doubt it.
So my vote is for Austin, what's yours?

Both of these guys represented pretty much everything you could ask for in a wrestler. Drawing power, charisma, mic skills, the capacity to produce great matches and lots of them. For me, undoubtedly two of the best of all time, and it doesn't really get much better than either of these guys. Their Wrestlemania matches are some of my favorite matches of all time, and both have been involved in so many epic wrestling moments.
Ring skills:
I would say Austin gets it. The Rock was a great wrestler and a great storyteller, underrated by many, but Austin, for me, was better. The way he adapted his style to become a brawler after his injury and yet continued to put on 5* matches was remarkable. Sure, he didn't have too many 'great' matches during the Attitude Era, but nobody did. He sure as hell made even the smallest matches entertaining, and he has been involved in a lot of the best matches I have seen, such as his famous Wrestlemania encounter with Bret Hart, the 3 stages of hell with Triple H, his match with Angle at Summerslam 01, and of course the Rock trilogy. The Rock certainly knew how to get the fans into his matches, and was a phenomenal athlete, but Austin takes this.
Mic Skills and overall charisma:
I loved Austin's intensity and the way he made his anti-authority 'everyman' character work, but it is hard not to choose the Rock here. Rock is the best mic worker in wrestling history. Simple as that. Epic as a face, epic as a heel, great serious dramatic promos, hilarious comedy promos. The Rock could do it all. The very definition of charismatic, and I often finding myself comparing everyone to the Rock in terms of charisma, because he is the very barometer of it. I doubt I will ever see anyone as good on the mic again, with such natural charisma.
Drawing Power:
Hard to tell due to the fact that they arrived at slightly different times, but on all available evidence, we have to say that Austin was undoubtedly the bigger draw. The fans really bought into his character as it was exactly what was required at the time. Both rank among the biggest draws in history though.
The Verdict:
I am going for Austin mainly based on his ring skills, and also his simple yet amazing character which only got over to the extent it did based on what he did with it.
Winner: Stone Cold Steve Austin.
But I still love you Rocky~!

Austin by far was a better wrestler than The Rock. Austin had began wrestling in 1989, and he really added variety to his moves list. The Rock was a great wrestler, and very well rounded, but Austin could wrestle more styles than The Rock can.
Mic Skills and overall charisma:
This is a tough one. The Rock had the perfect voice, perfect timing, childish jokes, and really got the crowd involved. he was awesome on the mic.
But I liked Stone Colds style better than The Rocks. Stone Cold winged it to perfection every time.
Drawing Power:
Wrestling wise, Stone Cold was always the bigger draw. Mainstream wise, The Rock owns it all. More people know who The Rock is, than Hulk Hogan.
The Verdict:
Look at the how the styles changed over the years for Stone Cold. In 2001, he had some awesome promos. He made the crowd chant What about a trillion times. Austin had it all. He won the World Championship 8 months after he broke his neck. He was one of the most influential persons that turned the WWF around, and lead it through its most profitable time ever.
Winner: Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Look at the biggest pops in WWF history. I guarantee you Austin is gonna fill half the list.

Now this Debate will be debated over for Generations to come lol
They're equal in almost everything except Crowd Reactions (Rocky gets it a little more) and Mic Skills, come on, Rock could make them go into sing lol, all he needs to say is FINALLY...
But overall, i gotta go with my boy Stone Cold Steve Austin.

I disagree. Really, take a look at the loudest people The Rock ever got, and compare it to the loudest one Stone Cold ever got, Austin wins.
Look at the pops that Austin got consistently, week after week between 97 and 99. Take a look at the pops in 00/01. 01, they were about equal, because The Rock really stepped up his game. But overall, Austin had more consistent and louder pops than The Rock did.

Wow, I don't really think I can add much more than I can. Two of my favourites of all time, and two of the greatest workers of the last 20 years.
I will give the slight nod to Austin simply because I he accomplished more and was around for longer, though I don't really feel too strongly either way.
After Flair, Austin is probably the second greatest US wrestler of all time, imo.

Someone mind adding a poll to this thread? I imagine there has to be some fans of The Rock that prefer him over Stone Cold. And there has to be some people who think Stone Cold is the most overrated wrestler that ever lived?
